Participants were clergy and lay leadership within churches of the Association. Emphasis was placed on the effects of emotional/spiritual clutter in our spiritual development. Workshop format. May 2, 2009 "Soul Stamina for the Christian Woman" for the United Methodist Women of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Sykesville, Maryland area. This talk with discussion focused upon the need for Christian women to take care of themselves spiritually. Particular emphasis was placed on the role clutter plays in our lives to weaken us ~ physically, emotionally and spiritually. April 19, 2008 Understanding the Impact of Grief and Loss to the Reisterstown-Owings Mills Ministerium. The focus was on refreshing the clergy s understanding of the grief process, and the important elements of caring for those in their congregations suffering from loss. Discussion also focused on losses the clergy had suffered in their own lives. December 12, 2007 Who Are We and Where Are We Going? Participants were the lay leadership of St. Paul UMC, Sykesville, MD. In the process they furthered their discussions about the present ministry and mission of the church, and wrote a new mission statement. Workshop format. October 20, 2007 Fill My Cup, Lord. Come and Quench the Thirsting of My Soul: The Importance of Spiritual Wellbeing for the Caregiver as Keynote Address at the Baltimore Washington Annual Preschool Teachers Conference at Mt. Airy UMC. Two workshops also provided which focused on self care essential for the caregiver and were titled: Reaching Out Without Being Pulled Down. August 16, 2007 Reframing: From Crisis to Opportunity by request of the Westminster Ministerium that involved clergy from a wide range of local congregations. In this half day presentation, I introduced Erikson s Stages of Psychosocial Development and Kohlberg s Stages of Moral Development, paralleling these important stage theories with the work of James Fowler in his Stages of Faith. Discussion helped clergy to name particular challenges/crises in their own lives or in the lives of their congregants, and reframe these difficulties in the light of faith development. January 23, 2007 Building Bridges in Our Congregation & Beyond By Faith given by request of the pastors of St. Paul UMC to assist their lay leadership in thinking through the process of moving from the pastor centered to program centered congregation. November 16, 2005 Moral Development in the Life of the Christian presentation & discussion given by request of one of the Adult Sunday School classes at Westminster United Methodist Church. Lawrence Kohlberg s moral dilemmas were used to facilitate discussion around moral development and its attendant effect on faith development. October 30, 2005 Handling Clergy Stresses given at the request of the Westminster Ministerium. A two hour program of information & discussion.
