Highly-Qualified Teacher Grant Brevard Public Schools What is the Highly-Qualified Teacher Grant? The Highly-Qualified Teacher Grant has been established for teachers (novice or experienced) with new assignments, assignments out-of-field or not Highly Qualified to set them on a path to be Highly Qualified and Highly Effective. The grant provides tuition-free Expert Systems for Teachers, subject-specific instructional support materials, subject-specific mentoring support, Subject Area Exam SAE (SAE) test preparation materials, and the Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE) fee. Over 100 courses are offered through the University of Florida (UF) and University of North Florida (UNF) Divisions of Continuing Education. View the universities link at http://thetlf.org/tlf_universities.html Who should enroll to take these online courses? Teachers assigned to a subject out-of-field and need to be Highly Qualified in the subject Teachers with a collegiate major or minor in a general subject area and are technically qualified to teach the subject who have not taught the specific subject previously Teachers of the subject that are interested in ways to improve their understanding of or delivery of the subject How will I benefit? The course is a complete, sequential day-to-day map through the teaching of the course in your classroom with editable instructional support materials and subject-specific mentoring teacher access. Additionally, this how to teach this subject course is designed for use with any textbook you have been assigned. If you are out-of-field and need to take a Subject Area Exam (SAE) to be highlyqualified, 60 inservice credits are awarded to you upon passing the SAE; 60 inservice

credits will be awarded upon passing the end-of-course content mastery test on the online course content. In addition, the grant provides each out-of-field teacher enrolled in the program FTCE Subject Area Exam test preparation materials and funding for the FTCE Subject Area Exam. Although the 60 credits awarded by the UF and UNF Divisions of Continuing Education for the online course completion are not college credit, Brevard Public Schools (BPS) teachers can have the 60 course inservice credits transferred onto their Brevard ProGOE² transcript through our by submitting the course certificate of completion to the Office of Professional Development, Brevard Public Schools. Upon submission of a passing score to our office, an additional 60 inservice credits can be earned towards renewal of a professional teaching certificate for passing and adding the SAE to your certificate. In addition, you will be designated as Highly Qualified in the subject upon passing the SAE and adding the certification area to your teaching certificate. If you are Highly Qualified in the subject, but the course content is new to you, 60 inservice credits will be awarded to BPS teachers contingent upon passing the online course s end-of-course content mastery test and submitting your course certificate of completion to the Office of Professional Development, ESF (without the need to take the SAE). What will I learn? The scope and sequence of the subject material The content and pedagogy to successfully deliver the material to your students How to engage your students in the subject on a daily basis What is the course format and requirements? It is an online, asynchronous, independent study through a school year. Funding through the Highly-Quality Teacher Grant will provide 400 seats. You can register at any time on a first-come, first served basis. There is a subject-specific pre-test and post-test for each online course. The pre-test does not count toward the grade as it only establishes a baseline of content knowledge. To pass the online course the post-test must be passed with a score of 70% or better.

Where can I find the list of 100 courses with additional details? http://www.unf.edu/ce/professional_development/unf_teacher_prep.aspx What component will be used to transfer the online course credit onto my ProGOE transcript for Brevard Public Schools (BPS)?
