Students from Diploma in Road Transport Management (RTMR01/RTMD01) will apply for Road Transport Management Bridging (BRTMB1). Students from the Diploma in Transportation Management (D1DTMQ/TMD001) will apply for Transport Management Bridging (TMB001). The programme is offered part-time with certain days per month of attendance at lectures, and assessments. 5

UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG TRANSPORT AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT CONTACT SESSIONS (ONLY IN JHB) IMPORTANT: The programme is offered part-time and requires students to attend full-day lectures on three to four days each month from March up to end of August. Examinations take place over a five day period in October. This training delivery method is ideal for working students who cannot attend full-time classes at a tertiary institution, and who are employed by the transport industry. Classes are offered at the Auckland Park Bunting Road Campus, Cottesloe, Johannesburg. Students will receive a complete class schedule on registration orientation. Note that attendance at classes, and assessments are compulsory. Approximately eight (8) workshops are scheduled per module. Your lecturer will present an overview of the work which you will be required to cover on your own and assist in any problems you may experience. IMPORTANT: The module End user Computing is a practical course. It is essential that students have access to a computer and Microsoft Office 2013 packages. DURATION OF QUALIFICATION 1 Year ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Grade 12 Certificate with diploma endorsement. St 10 Certificate with M-Score of at least 12 before 2008 (plus) 6

BRIDGING COURSE IN TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT 2016 Certificate in Road Transport Management (1year) + Diploma in Road Transport Management (2 year) OR Transportation Management Diploma (3 year) LEARNING PATH You are eligible to apply for the BTech in Transportation Management after completion of the Bridging Course in Transportation Management with an minimum final average of 65% in each of the modules. All applicants will be subject to a selection process and space availability. APPLICATIONS Students need to apply for a place on the bridging programme. All applications received will go through a selection process. The selection is based on the student s performance in the Diploma. Applications will open 24 November and will close the 4th of December each year. Students will be notified in February whether their application was successful. Only successful applicants may register for the programme. REGISTRATION How to enrol Students can only register after receipt of an admittance letter from the Department of Transport and Supply Chain Management. Registration will take place on 03 March 2016 between 08:00-15:00. No late registrations will be accepted. All students should report to the Department of Transport and Supply Chain Management (Auckland Park Bunting Road Campus K Green) for registration. 7

The University does not register students who submit incomplete application forms or do not attach the necessary documents required for registration. Proof of registration will be issued to students upon registration. FINANCE Refer to the Finance Leaflet for more information regarding the fees, payment options and payment methods, etc. ASSESSMENTS One assignment plus two tests plus one exam per module are required. The examination is written in October. 8

BRIDGING COURSE IN TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT 2016 Students must pass all the modules to qualify for application to the BTech. All students in the bridging course are subjected to the rules for applying to formal degrees. As space in the BTech programmes are limited, only students who obtain a minimum average of 65% in each of the modules, may be accepted for further studies at UJ. EXAMPLE OF CALCULATION OF YEAR MARK Assignment 30% Test 1 35% Test 2 35% Year mark 100% In order to qualify for the exam a minimum of 40% year mark is required. CALCULATION OF EXAMINATION MARK Examination 100% CALCULATION OF FINAL MARK Year mark 50% Examination 50% Final mark 100% A pass mark of 50% in each module, is required. Analyse and interpret the impact of product and service characteristics, customer service levels, and market demands on the design of a distribution channel. Configure the logistics network with regard to the planning process, facility location, transport and shipping decisions, procurement and 10

Reflect on channel strategy and design with regard to enterprise positioning, marketing design, logistics design and the planning and analysis framework. Analyse and interpret the elements of channel development and management, with specific reference to negotiations, channel management and performance measurement. Modes of Transport Transportation modes are an essential component of transportation systems since they are the means by which people and freight achieve mobility. The purpose of this module is to provide the student with knowledge of various transportation modes, namely air, water (shipping), road, rail and pipelines which will be covered in the syllabus. Each mode is characterised by a set of technical, operation and commercial characteristics which form the focus of this module. Contract Law of Transportation The purpose of this module is to provide the student with the principles of contract and commercial law. The module deals with the general principles applicable to contracts, as well as a variety of specific contracts, including certain aspects of commercial law such as negotiable instruments and insurance law. Business Communication On completion of this module, students will be able to: Be a mindful and purposeful communicator. Be a effective listener. Interpret the messages being sent to you, both verbally and nonverbally. Be sensitive to the differences in society. 11

Reflection on the roles of individuals in the organization. End user computing This module will enable students to: Create, edit and enhance standard business documents using Microsoft Word. Create effective basic Microsoft Office PowerPoint Presentations. Accounting Skills The module is divided into the two aspects of accounting, namely, Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. Financial Accounting Component The purpose of this module is to introduce the student to basic financial accounting at a level consistent with non-accounting students. The basic principles of accounting and the accounting cycle are incorporated into the module. The module helps students to reflect on the process flow of assets, liabilities, equity, income and expenses. The students will be introduced to the different types of business entities and the preparation of basic financial statements. An overview of value added tax with basic calculations would conclude this section of the module. Management Accounting Component In this module, the student will be taught to identity and analyse costs, to apply basic managerial accounting techniques and prepare information for decision making purposes, applicable to services, trade and manufacturing entities. The module will also incorporate inventory recording and control, remuneration recording and calculations and cash budgets. 12
