The Model 890 software, officially named the 3M Stats and Status Software for 3M Detection Systems Model 8900 (abbreviated in this guide as 8900 software) is designed to work with your 3M Detection System Model 8900 or 9900. The software provides the following functionality: Monitoring and statistics of: Patron counts for the detection system Secured item alarm counts Monitoring status of each lattice within the detection system. Optional identification of items that trigger alarms. (In order for this functionality to work, additional requirements for RFID tags, the detection system and circulation system must be met.) System components The 3M Stats and Status Software for 3M Detection System Model 8900 consists of a server software program running on a server PC, and a controller software program running on a controller PC. Only a single server PC is required, however, each branch (building) requires a controller PC. Note that the server software and the software for one branch controller can run on the same PC. The following illustration depicts a sample installation. Copyright 2009, 3M. All rights reserved. 1
Common terms The following terms are used in this guide. Controller PC Computer that runs the controller software. Controller Software communicates with the 8900 Detection Systems physically located nearby. One controller must be installed per branch. Firebird is a database system. It stores data collected by lattices. Logs a recording of events within a hardware/software system. If issues appear while using the software, logs can provide useful information to help the support team attempting to fix them. Server PC Computer that runs the server software. Server Software communicates with the controller software. Installed once per library system. Item ID requirements The following Item ID requirements must be observed. Circulation or ILS requirements Requirements for circulation or ILS: SIP connection Innovative (III) circulation system is not supported by 3M Stats and Status Software for 3M Detection Systems Model 8900/9900 version 2.4. Detection system and RFID tag requirements for item ID Requirements for 3M Detection System Model 8900: Serial number 89x00260 or higher Single or dual corridor system Multiple detection systems must be greater than 15 feet apart ISO 18000-3 Mode 1 tag with NXP ICODE SLI - SL2 ICS20 chip, such as 3M Basic RFID tag stock number 75 4700 2660 2 or 75 4700 2227 0 Requirements for 3M Detection System Model 9900: Single or dual corridor system Multiple detection system must be greater than 15 feet apart 2 Copyright 2009, 3M. Pre-installation planning While you are planning your installation, it is strongly recommended that you complete the following steps. 1. Determine whether you want the optional item ID functionality and that the detection system and RFID tags meet requirements. 2. Arrange for Ethernet cabling to be run to each lattice in the 3M Detection System. The cabling can be run either before or after installation of the detection system. However, if the cabling is run after installation, an additional visit by a 3M technician is required and an additional installation charge may be incurred. 3. Complete the pre-installation checklist (provided in this guide). 4. Complete the license agreement (provided in this guide). 5. Place your order: In the US, send in a copy of the completed pre-installation checklist and signed license agreement. Outside the US, check with your local sales representative. 6. The IP address for each lattice may have been set at installation. If it was not set at installation, contact 3M and request that a service technician set the IP addresses for each lattice. Note that in the US, this call is chargeable and should be included in the quote. Copyright 2009, 3M. All rights reserved. 3
