Information Technology Services BellSouth Corporation Software Quality Assurance & Testing Challenge Implement a new customized Billing System to replace outdated legacy components. A well-defined and structured approach to software quality assurance was essential to timely implementation and acceptance by the user community. Approach Define a testing methodology to cover all testing beginning with unit test through production operations test with the added goal of achieving CMM Level 2 certification. Develop a testing strategy to deploy the new billing system in nine states incorporating critical legacy system releases. The deployments spanned a three year period. Gain approval on testing strategy from all stakeholders including end users in the nine states. Build a team of test analysts to include end users and provide necessary training on testing methodology and tools. Team size grew to 70 + analysts at its peak. Results The Billing System was successfully deployed on time and within budget. This was the first time the IT organization met its schedule. The Testing organization achieved CMM Level 3 certification surpassing the original goal and the testing methodology was adopted by the Corporate IT organization.
