In addition to supporting the work of the President, the Office of the President includes the Strategic Development Services team, Internal Audit and the Public Affairs team. The role being advertised here is within the Public Affairs team, which has responsibility for DIT communications and marketing. Job Description Role Overview Applications are sought for the post of Web Assistant (Grade V). The role of the Web Assistant will be to maintain and update central areas of information on the DIT website; to provide assistance to Schools and other users in ensuring that content in their area of the site is current; and to provide general support to the Web and Online Media Officer and to the network of trained users of the CMS. The provisions of the Dublin Institute of Technology Act, 1992 to 2006 and any subsequent Acts replacing or amending these Acts and any orders and regulations made under these Acts will apply. Principal Accountabilities Maintaining and updating core information on www.dit.ie and its microsites Updating information on the DIT intranet Supporting the network of users trained in the content management system to ensure that information is updated in a timely manner Dealing with staff requests concerning updates on School or Function areas of the website. Participating in training of new users and preparation of training material Monitoring analytics for the website Assisting Web and Online Media Officer in web development projects Implementation of best practice SEO with network of users Work with the marketing officer in the provision of timely social media updates and social media support for staff Person Specification The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities as outlined below: Knowledge Third-level qualification in relevant discipline eg, web development, visual communications, computing Fully proficient in HTML, JavaScript, CSS and XML, Adobe Photoshop and Desktop Applications Good understanding of web technology and current developments in web design, including WAI guidelines and search engine optimisation Experience 3

Citizenship / Permit Requirement: Eligibility to compete is open to candidates who are citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. The main terms and conditions of employment are as follows: Tenure: This is a Permanent wholetime and pensionable appointment at Staff Officer, Grade V level. Location The successful candidate will be based in DIT Grangegorman, Dublin 7, but may be re-located in line with operational requirements. 4

In September 2014, programmes operating in Mountjoy Square, Portland Row and Temple Bar transferred to DIT s new City Centre Campus in Grangegorman. In September 2017, programmes currently operating in the Cathal Brugha Street Campus, the Kevin Street Campus and part of the Rathmines Campus will also transfer to the Campus in Grangegorman. In September 2015 it is expected that through legislation the three institutions in the Dublin region Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown (ITB) and Institute of Technology, Tallaght (ITT) will merge into a single institution to form the new Dublin Institute of Technology, prior to seeking designation as a Technological University for Dublin. Thereafter, staff may be assigned or re-assigned to any of the buildings/centres in the new Dublin Institute of Technology, at the discretion of the Institute and in accordance with collective agreements arrived at from time to time. Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Hours of work: A 37 hour working week is in operation. This can be reviewed by collective agreement, with the Minister for Education & Skills. Having regard to the nature of the work, attendance outside these hours may be required from time to time. Probation: The terms of the Institute s Staff Induction and Probation Policy will apply. Annual leave: Annual leave and Public Holidays shall be granted as per the Holidays (Employees) Act 1973 and Organisation of Working Time Act 1997. The annual leave for this post is 25 days inclusive of any compulsory leave days as determined by the Institute. Pro rata annual leave entitlements will apply to contracts of less than one year's duration. Retirement: This is a pensionable post. Specific details of the scheme will be dependent on the successful appointee s individual status and, therefore, such details will be provided at the time of appointment. Applicants should note that they may be required to complete a Pre-Employment Declaration to confirm whether or not they have previously availed of an Irish Public Service Scheme of incentivised early retirement or enhanced redundancy payment. Applicants will also be required to declare any entitlements to a Public Service pension benefit (in payment or preserved) from any other Irish Public Service employment. Sick Leave: Uncertified: Up to 7 days over a 2 year rolling period paid uncertified sick leave, (but for no more than three consecutive days in any one period). 5

Certified: The terms of the new Public Service Sick Leave Scheme effective from 1 st September 2014 shall apply. A medical certificate / doctor s note will be required for absence due to illness in excess of three consecutive days at any one time and for each day in excess of seven days in any one year, or salary will not be paid. The Institute may request a full medical report and is entitled to the facility of having a medical practitioner appointed by the Institute to examine the appointee, subject to any collective agreement applying. The full medical report will be disclosed to the Institute. Sick Leave will be in accordance with the arrangements authorised by the Minister for Education and Skills from time to time.
