New Mexico Engineering Foundation (NMEF) Scholarships Internal Deadline (for UNM School of Engineering Students): Friday, February 27 th, 2015 at 4:00pm SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS: Only ONE application FORM is necessary per student (even if you are applying for more than one scholarship) Only ONE Official transcript may be sent with the application for all scholarships. In the case of official transcripts, please make sure the envelope shows your name OR print your name in the outside of the envelope, but DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE. If you order them late and they don t arrive to you before February 27, please ask Elsa Castillo in ESS for the address where to mail it. Read carefully the criteria/selection sections for each of the scholarships listed, as some of these scholarships may require that you attach to the application additional documentation (specific for that scholarship you want to be considered for). All additional documentation must be submitted with the application form. It is preferred that you address EACH essay or recommendation letter specifically for EACH scholarship that you are eligible to apply for. Recommendations should be in a sealed envelope signed in the back by the recommender. Put your name in each document submitted. If you submit your application to Engineering Student Services by 4:00pm on Friday, February 27 th, 2015 (to the address below), you do not need to have the application endorsed. If received by 4:00pm that day, our office will have Associate Dean Fleddermann ENDORSE ALL applications for you. SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTIONS ^ AMERICAN COUNCIL OF ENGINEERING COMPANIES OF NEW MEXICO- (2) $750 The ACEC/NM scholarship was established to provide education assistance to students interested in the business and management of an engineering practice. Criteria and selection: - The applicant must be entering their junior, senior or fifth year in the fall in an ABET-approved engineering program or in an accredited landsurveying program. -The entire application should include a letter of about 500 words on one of the following topics: What is a consulting engineer or land surveyor? OR Why should you consider a career as a consulting engineer or land surveyor? Your interest, understanding and commitment to the business and management of the profession are important and should be reflected in the essay. Selection of the scholarship recipient will be determined by the New Mexico Engineering Foundation Scholarship Committee. ^ Bryce Rowan Scholarship - Society of American Military Engineers, Albuquerque Post Scholarship $1,000 The Bryce Rowan Scholarship was established by the Albuquerque Post, Society of American Military Engineers in memory of Bryce Rowan, an active member of SAME for many years, who passed away in 1997. The applicant must be -a junior or senior enrolled in an engineering program at UNM, NMSU or NMTech Special consideration is given to a non-scholarship ROTC student Selection is made by the NMEF Scholarship Committee with participation of the Albuquerque Post, Society of American Military Engineers. ^ CABOT College Scholarship 2 @ $2,000 each The Cabot Corporation and the Cabot Foundation have established a scholarship for a deserving student pursuing an education in engineering. -a junior or senior enrolled in an engineering program at UNM, NMSU or NMTech. -The student will be selected for the award based on academic standing, -participation in extra curricular activities, evidence of leadership, character and self-reliance. -a New Mexico college student. -a citizen of the United States. -Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA during the previous two semesters Selection of the scholarship recipient will be determined by the New Mexico Engineering Foundation Scholarship Committee.

^ Herbert G. Koogle Scholarship The Herbert G. Koogle Scholarship was established in 1984 in recognition of Mr. Koogle's election as President of the National Society of Professional Engineers. Mr. Koogle continues active participation in NSPE and the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers. Criteria and Selection -Applicants must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program at UNM, NMIMT, or NMSU - Applicants must be at the upper division level in engineering, with an overall GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 - Financial need will be a consideration. -The entire application should consist of the following: 1. The completed application form. 2. A letter of recommendation from at least one professor familiar with the student's academic work. 3. A letter of about 300 words, addressed to the scholarship committee, discussing the applicant's interest in engineering, field of study, and future plans. Selection of the scholarship recipient will be determined by the New Mexico Foundation Scholarship Committee. ^ Society of American Military Engineers, Albuquerque Post Scholarships 2 @ $1,500 each The Society of American Military Engineers, Albuquerque Post will offer two (2) academic scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are pursuing undergraduate degrees in engineering, mathematics or science. Each scholarship will be for a one-time award of $1500. The scholarship committee criteria for scholarship awards will include academic records, demonstrated school leadership positions, community involvement, and the student s ability to partially earn tuition costs and fulfill financial needs. Criteria and Selection Applicant must be a graduating high school senior, pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering, mathematics or science. Preference may be given to a child of a parent that was killed in military action. The entire application should consist of the following: 1.The application form, including the confidentiality agreement 2. Personal statements as described on the application 3. At least one letter of recommendation. 4. An official academic transcript. The scholarship recipient will be determined by The Society of American Military Engineers, Albuquerque Post and the NMSPE Scholarship Committee. ^ Structural Engineering Association of New Mexico (SEANM) Scholarship $500 The SEANM Structural Engineers Association of New Mexico, Student Scholarship has been developed and funded by the SEA New Mexico Chapter to assist students studying Civil Engineering with an Emphasis on Structures. Criteria and Selection: -Applicants must be enrolled as a full time student in an in-state (New Mexico) ABET accredited engineering program with an emphasis on Structural Engineering at the time the scholarship is granted. -Applicants must be at least a sophomore level at the time of application. -Applicants should be students who have demonstrated merit with at least a 3.0 GPA. -Applicants must submit a 1/2-page essay on Why you would be a good candidate for the SEANM Scholarship. Selection of the scholarship recipient will be determined by the New Mexico Engineering Foundation Scholarship Committee. The selection for this scholarship will be done once a year.

^ The Helen Zimmermann Memorial Scholarship The Helen Zimmermann Memorial Scholarship was established in 1993 by Karl H. Zimmermann, PE, in memory of his wife who believed women should be encouraged to become engineers. Recipients have strong academic records and have demonstrated a commitment to furthering engineering education on campus and in the community. The applicant must be a female student enrolled in the engineering program at UNM, NM Tech, or NMSU. The applicant must also be at least at the sophomore level in engineering, and demonstrate academic merit. Financial need will be a consideration. Include a letter of recommendation from at least one professor familiar with the student's academic work, and a letter of about 300 words, addressed to the scholarship committee, discussing the applicant's interest in engineering, field of study and future plans. Criteria and selection: -The applicant must be a female student enrolled in the engineering program at UNM, NMSU or NMIMT. -The applicant must be at least at the sophomore level in engineering and demonstrate academic merit. -Financial need will be a consideration. -The entire application should include the following: a letter of recommendation from at least one professor familiar with the student's academic work, a letter of about 300 words, addressed to the scholarship committee and discussing the applicant's interest in engineering, chosen field of study and future plans. Selection of the recipient will be determined by the NMEF Scholarship Committee. ^ The Kate Warder Memorial Scholarship The Kate Warder Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Kate Warder who passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 1995. Kate served as executive director of the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers for 14 years and was instrumental in creating the New Mexico Engineering Foundation. The scholarship recognizes the many contributions that Kate made to the engineering profession in New Mexico as well as her commitment to engineering education. Criteria and selection: -The applicant shall be a full time engineering student enrolled at UNM, NMSU or NMIMT at the time of the application. - The applicant should be of junior or senior status and have an overall GPA of at least 3.0/4.0. - -The applicant shall be a resident of New Mexico. -The applicant shall be a member of the student chapter of their respective engineering society. -The applicant will be selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, participation in extra curricular activities, and financial need. -The applicant shall submit a one page paper outlining their goals in engineering. Each application shall include a letter of recommendation from at least one faculty member. The recipients will be selected by the NMEF Scholarship Committee with participation by the Warder family.

^ The New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers - Albuquerque Chapter College Scholarships The New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers - Albuquerque Chapter is offering four (3) $1000 scholarships to students enrolled in ABET accredited engineering programs at UNM or NMTech or a CNMCC student already accepted into one of the above engineering programs. Criteria and selection: -Applicant must be sophomore or above. Graduate students in ABET accredited engineering programs at UNM or NMTech are also eligible. -Engineering GPA must be 3.0 or above. -Students must submit an official transcript, endorsed application and a letter of recommendation. Financial need is considered, as well as extra-curricular activities, student involvement and current job status. Selection of the recipients will be determined by the NMEF Scholarship Committee. ^ Wells/McCarthy Memorial Scholarship $1500 Criteria and Selection -Applicants must be enrolled as a full time student in an in-state ABET accredited engineering program at the time the scholarship is granted. -Applicants must be at least a sophomore level at the time of application. -Applicants should be students who have demonstrated merit and who have shown evidence of financial need. -Applicants must submit a one-page essay on What is an Engineer, Why You Want to Be an Engineer, Why You Need the Scholarship and What is Engineer's Role in Society (other than basic engineering), i.e. how the Engineer should contribute to the Community. Selection of the scholarship recipient will be determined by the New Mexico Engineering Foundation Scholarship Committee. The selection for this scholarship will be done once a year. ^ WHPacific Leadership in Engineering SCHOLARSHIP -$750 WHPacific would like the Leadership spirit to continue so that others have an opportunity to contribute their talents to the community. Applicants must be: US residents Enrolled in the mechanical, civil or electrical engineering program at UNM. Preference will be given to Alaskan Natives and other Native Americans, students pursuing a bachelor s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and with leadership experience in student or community organizations. Include a copy of (unofficial) transcript and a one-page essay on My Thoughts on Leadership in Engineering. Selection of the scholarship recipient will be determined by the New Mexico Engineering Foundation Scholarship Committee.
