ST. VRAIN VALLEY LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP LIST (List 1) CLASS OF 2015 Each of the following scholarships uses the Local Scholarship Application form. All are due to the counseling office by February 26, 2015. Follow the directions on the first page of the application form. It is the student s responsibility to provide the necessary copies of this form and correctly assemble and indicate the correct scholarship for which the student is applying. Incomplete applications will not be considered! WELKER SCHOLARSHIP Selection criteria: Financial need and achievement Graduating senior from St. Vrain Valley District Re1J high school Restrictions: Must be used at a non-sectarian Colorado institution Selection criteria: Financial need and achievement Welker Trust Fund $500 to $1,000 scholarships, amount and number varies Payment directly to college Selection committee: District Scholarship Committee Local Scholarship Application. Student must bring original SAR to counseling office. Counselor will make an official copy of the SAR. Be sure to bring in all pages of the SAR. The FAFSA must be electronically filed by February 12, 2015 TWIN PEAKS ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Selection criteria: GPA: academic minimum 3.5 Financial need; achievement in activities; essay of 400 words or less, on the following theme: Describe the event(s) which you believe have led you to achieve to your present level of success. Graduating senior from any St. Vrain Valley area high school as long as student s physical address is within the St. Vrain Valley School District boundary. Restrictions: Must be used at college, university or vocational school in Colorado Twin Peaks Rotary Club Academic /awards to be determined Varies year to year depending on applicant pool Payment made directly to college, one half each semester Selection committee: Twin Peaks Rotary Club Scholarship Committee Local Scholarship Application. INCLUDE TRANSCRIPT, SAT or ACT test scores, a copy of the SAR. (Students applying for this scholarship must be willing to allow members of the rotary committee access to the financial information on the SAR. Complete and submit FAFSA electronically by February 12, 2015 to include a copy of the SAR in your application. Incomplete applications are immediately disqualified. KIWANIS CLUB OF LONGMONT FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS Selection criteria: Financial need and scholarship standing; 250 word essay on what President Kennedy said, Ask not what your country can do for you but ask what YOU can do for your country. JAMES G. CRAIG SCHOLARSHIP Selection criteria: School records and essay; students may apply for both scholarships. The students will have their choice from two topics to write about: Topic 1: Studying The Vietnam War Era. 1. Why should younger generations study the Vietnam War Era in American History? 2. What lessons were learned from this war, and how can we apply these lessons to future political decisions on going to war? Topic 2: The draft. The Vietnam War Era, as with World War II and Korean War, employed conscription (the draft) to bring young men into the military to support and fight these wars. Although the Selective Service System still exists, conscription has not been used since 1973, as an all volunteer, professional military force is used instead. 1. Should conscription be used as an option to bring U.S. citizens to support military efforts to resolve conflicts involving USA? 2. If conscription were to be used again should females be drafted along with males? American Legion Post #32 Payment made directly to college. Individual interested in pursuing a degree in math or science. Any graduating senior from the St. Vrain Valley School District Re1J Restrictions: Not limited to Colorado. Arts and Science major at an accredited four year college or university. Emphasis on math and/or science. HISPANIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION (includes the Paul David Rodriguez Scholarship) Selection criteria: Personal qualities, financial need, community and school participation and an essay on one of the following topics: Why do you feel HEF should award you a scholarship? How will your attendance at a college benefit you, your family and/or other residents in St. Vrain Valley? What do you expect to accomplish in the future and how will a college education help you accomplish that goal? The applicant must be graduating from, or a former student of a St. Vrain Valley area high school and must be actively involved in the community. The applicant must be accepted to an accredited college, university or vocational school prior to funds being released. Nontraditional students are encouraged to apply. The FAFSA is not required, but all students are able to complete the FAFSA4Caster. The forecaster will give HEF a clearer picture of a family's financial need. Please include a copy of the report.
