Prescribing a new medication Straightforward, precise, & convenient 1 From the Pulse Rx module within the Patient Dashboard, click Medication Search. -Or- From the Current Medications tab, click Medications and select Add New Medication. 2 3 The Medication Search tab displays Click one of the following search type options: Search by Medication The New Look! Replacing static line item entries, each medication result is now a selfcontained live tile. Each live tile is a snapshot of the prescribed medication. Offering a unique combination of simplicity and versatility, the live tile can provide both a comprehensive summary and extensive detail interchangeably through a simple click. Actions performed for the medication record are reflected instantaneously through the live tile, providing users with a continuously up-to-date work list. 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 Under the Search field, enter the appropriate criteria for the selected search type. If needed, select the desired filter option under the Search Modifier field. Click Search. Results matching the specified filter criteria display. Select the desired medication/supply. Click Rx Pad. The selected medication/supply displays within the Rx Pad. The patient and assigned pharmacy information displays within the top section of the Rx Pad. Drug coverage and formulary data for the selected medication displays within the Benefits Eligibility Sidebar panel. If needed, click Select Pharmacy to access the Pharmacy Search window to locate and assign a different pharmacy within the Rx Pad. If applicable, select an alternative formulation and dosage option for the selected medication/supply under the Medication dropdown field. Under the Units field, enter a free-text description of the dose unit. Under the Route field, enter a free-text description of the route. Under the Frequency field, enter the frequency the patient should use for the selected medication. Under the Duration (Days) field, enter the number of days the patient should use the selected medication. If applicable, check the PRN box to insert as needed under the Directions field. Based on the data specified under the Quantity, Units, Route, Frequency, Duration, and PRN, the patient directions for the selected medication/supply display under the Directions field. Under the Dispense # field, specify the total number of dose units dispensed to the patient. Under the Packaging field, specify the packaging of the total dispense dose unit for the selected medication. 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 Under the Refills field, specify the permitted number of refills for the selected medication. If applicable, check the DAW box to specify the selected medication as DAW: Dispense as Written. If applicable, enter a free-text note for the selected medication under the Note (Pharmacy) field. If applicable, check the Spanish Label box to insert ~Use Spanish Label~ under the Note (Pharmacy) field. Under the Start Date field, enter the date the patient can begin taking the selected medication as prescribed. Under the Stop Date field, enter the date the patient should stop taking the medication as prescribed. If applicable, check the Outside Provider box to specify an external prescribing physician. Under the Physician/PA/RNP field, identify the physician prescribing the selected medication/supply. If applicable, specify the supervising physician under the Supervised By field. If applicable, specify the expiration date for the selected medication under the Expire field.

If applicable, specify the last refill date for the selected medication under the Last Refill field. If applicable, specify the prescription expiration date under the Script Expire fi e l d. If applicable, specify the lot number for the selected medication under the Lot #fi e l d. If applicable, check the Dispense as Sample box to specify the selected medication as a sample dispensed within the clinic. Click one of the following options to prescribe the medication as documented within the Rx Pad to the patient: Save Prescribes the medication to the patient erx Prescribes the medication and transmits the Rx script electronically to the pharmacy specified within the Rx Pad. Fax Rx Prescribes the medication to the patient and faxes the Rx script to the pharmacy specified within the Rx Pad. Print Rx Prescribes the medication to the patient and prints the Rx script. If applicable, click Save for Review to save the medication as under review for the patient. 41 After clicking the desired prescription option within the Rx Pad, an interaction check for the select medication is performed. Note: 1. 2. To prescribe a free-text medication, simply click the Rx Pad toolbar icon without first selecting a medication. The Stop Date field does not reflect the number of refills and only reflects the stop date of the initial fill of the medication. Comprehensive Search Results Each medication matching the specified filter text displays a self-contained live tile. Users can select the desired medication live tile to prescribe, add to the favorite list, or view detailed information. pulseinc.com
42 43 44 If interaction results are returned, the Interaction Warning window displays. Review all results under the Interaction Warning popup window thoroughly. If necessary, click Back to cancel the prescription process and return to the Rx Pad for the selected medication. -Or- Select the applicable option under the Override Reason field and click Override to override any interaction results and proceed with the prescription process. 45 46 47 48 After clicking the desired prescription option within the Rx Pad, the Confirm Rx window displays. The Rx script for the selected medication displays within the Confirm Rx window (as documented under the Rx Pad.) Review the Rx script within the Confirm Rx window. If needed, click Edit to modify the prescription within the Rx Pad. If the prescription within the Confirm Rx window appears accurate with no further changes needed, click Save. 49 50 51 Based on the prescription option selected, an output (i.e., fax, print, or erx) is generated. A pop-up window confirming the prescription displays. Click OK The prescription applied to the patient displays under the Current Medications tab of the Pulse Rx module. pulseinc.com
