17 2011 Home Repair Summit KC Metro Home Repairs KC Area Home Repair (and Adaptation) Demand: 3 Thousands (probably tens of thousands) homes occupied by elderly, disabled or low-income families need repairs, Many of these homes have fallen to sub-standard living conditions. Need will increase due to: Fallout from Great Recession Diminished governmental funds. Retiring baby boomers age group Longer life expectancies
18 2011 Home Repair Summit Question: What are the Needs? KC Metro Home Repairs Answer: Anything that can go bad in a house! Roof, foundation,,plumbing including main sewer lines, electrical (from incoming service to receptacles), damage from leaks, old or broken windows, no insulation, damaged or bad doors, bad appliances, damage walls and ceilings, and on.. Adaptive needs include wheelchair ramps, grab bars, bathroom modifications/remodels, different toilets, door widening, cabinet modifications, etc. 4

25 2011 Home Repair Summit Central Intake System 4 Intake Process Database/Software System Client Calls Central Number Client Receives General Info Client is routed to appropriate intake call center based on geography and need Data is taken. Data is sorted and routed to the appropriate p dispatcher. Dispatcher disseminates client file(s) to appropriate partners. Focus Group created to identify all key data points necessary for client intake. Results of Focus Group are used to create a database flow chart of client intake information. Design team programs the software to record key data points based on the specifications i and flow chart criteria. Software is built and tested Software is implemented at HRPP

28 2011 Home Repair Summit Volunteer Management System 7 Individual/Organizations Corporate Identify the best methods for enlisting individuals and organization members to volunteer Prepare training modules Identify best methods for managing volunteers Delegation of duties Safety Create training i module for individual volunteer management Update training modules as more efficient systems are identified Solicit most effective corporate volunteer programs from partner organizations Enlist professional corporate volunteer director to prepare the corporate volunteer management program Research other corporate volunteer programs and update the HRPP program accordingly with new successful concepts and ideas Work closely with the fundraising directors to maximize volunteer participation from each company
29 2011 Home Repair Summit Pooled Funding Resources Giving Legacy Fund Generated from individual foundations, private family foundations, individual idual donors, and corporate philanthropy 8 Government Grants Build on existing grants received from all partner organizations. Combine where necessary and create new grant applications for larger grants where applicable Church/Community Donations Take existing church contributions and combine for larger church donations from national church offices Seek approval from all national organizations based on the national presence of the HRPP to open the doors for approved funding/grants, etc. Partner with local and national offices of charitable organizations that rely on HRPP to serve their clients Create a sponsor partnership with national suppliers to provide nationwide buying power with reduced prices and donated supplies

31 2011 Home Repair Summit Coop with National Charities 10 Identify the national charities that are most aligned with the mission/vision of the HRPP and develop elop relationships with the local offices in each city where a HRPP exists Train each HRPP office on the most effective ways to work with the local charities and have a national HRPP representative present for the initial relationship development Train the local charity on the intake methods of HRPP and give an orientation on our organization and process Work closely with the local office to prepare an efficient system for their members to be served by the local HRPP office. Obtain testimonials on the partnership and prepare summary of work completed for each local l charity Work with the national offices of both the charity and HRPP to engage in joint fundraising campaigns, grant requests, etc.
32 2011 Home Repair Summit Unified Communities 11 Develop relationships with the community leaders and make presentations to inform them of the work that HRPP does and how their respective departments/citizens can get in touch with the local HRPP office. Identify and work closely with sister organizations in the community that perform tangent services. Work with the national HRPP liaison on local public relations and media relationships. Identify and build relationships with the local offices of the major charitable organizations and coordinate on the fundraising events to ensure that large events are not held on the same day/weekend. Attend regular meetings of the local community neighborhood associations to engage them in the process and educate their neighborhood members on our services. Work closely with the HRPP corporate volunteer coordinator to ensure that the corporate volunteers are well educated. Solicit feedback from corporate volunteers, via coordinator, on the process, workdays, etc.
