1 Overview The (HP RISS) is a highly scalable, integrated content archiving storage platform for information management (IM). Developed for the enterprise, from mid-range to large global and remote branch office deployments HP RISS is the foundation for rapidly evolving compliance and archiving strategies. The unique RISS grid storage architecture enables a flexible, multi-dimensional scaling capability which can intelligently distribute hundreds of terabytes of content and billions of objects across a grid of smart storage cells. HP RISS enables a wide range of IM solutions from HP's suite of IM products and services and HP Solution Partners. It also offers cost-effective, remote-replication solutions for global enterprise deployments, increased availability, business continuity (BC) and disaster recovery (DR) initiatives. Structured, semi-structured, and un-structured objects such as s, files, and database files, can be archived to HP RISS through business-driven policies and transformed into easily searched, referenceable information. HP RISS integrates, tests, and provides all of the hardware, software, and services required to provide a fully integrated, tamperresistant, single-instancing, integrated content indexing, search, and archiving platform for reference information. HP RISS can enable and help simplify data retention, regulatory requirements, and corporate governance initiatives. Capacity, store, search, and application gateway performance can be scaled either independently or in parallel to easily meet growing enterprise's current and future requirements and can support hundreds to more than a hundred thousand users with unprecedented access to data without compromising its trademark search and retrieval performance. Updates to HP RISS 1.5 revision 2: The new HP RISS Base System configuration (SKU A7970D) is a lower cost, entry level system targeted at the mid-enterprise and remote branch office global deployments. A single, new Universal Smartcell group comes standard in the A7970D and now has the ability to scale up to three (3) Universal Smartcells in the base system rack for improved footprint density. All of the management servers have been standardized on the same DL320 server configuration for reduced cost and improved supportability. Available performance and capacity upgrade options can scale to support large enterprise environments. The new 5406 switch with10ghz backplane replaces the 5308 for added expansion performance. The new Universal Smart Storage Cell (Universal Smartcell or USC) with significantly reduced cost, enhanced performance and availability. Replaces the previous 850GB and 1.4TB Smartcells with a single SKU (AG442B) and supports both 850GB in HP RISS v1.4, and 1.4TB in v1.5. USC provides excellent investment protection and simplifies planning for capacity and software upgrades by allowing the customer to purchase the largest available Smartcell at the time, even though the current version of RISS software may not support that capacity, and then subsequently release the additional supported capacity upon upgrade to that version of RISS software. Based on the new DL320s, USC comes with a total protected capacity of 2.5TB in a RAID-6 (Advanced Data Guard - ADG) configuration and initially supports 1.4TB as in v1.5. Overall performance has nearly doubled over the previous 1.4TB Smartcell. 5 Product Highlights RISS Technology (HP RISS) is a complete system that integrates all the hardware, software and services required for an active archiving solution for and other common document types. The latest release of HP RISS expands beyond the large enterprise market into the Medium Enterprise and Global Enterprise deployments involving Remote Branch Offices (RBO) providing long term archival of reference information and provides Information Life Management (ILM) storage capabilities. Key features includes integrated, attribute and content based indexing, search and retrieval in a tamper resistant, WORM enabled, storage environment to meet the compliance, regulatory, and legal requirements of business and government customers. The HP RISS is a global enterprise platform which is based on a unique and highly flexible, grid based architecture that supports a powerful, "multi-dimensional" scaling capability that can easily scale to hundreds of terabytes and 100,000+ users. HP RISS can be scaled with an array of performance and capacity options either individually or in parallel and can be custom configured or "tuned" to meet each individual customer's exacting needs and requirements today and into the future. Assists users to meet compliance requirements When combined with HP Reference Information Management (HP RIM) compliance software applications, such as HP RIM for Exchange and HP RIM for Domino, all s sent or received in the customer environment are automatically migrated to HP RISS. Data stored in HP RISS is retention managed and tamper-resistant in alignment with SEC and regulatory rules and can be searched with proper credentials and quarantined when required. 6 Software Components HP RISS Management Software HP Reference Information Manager (HP RIM) management software includes access management, security management, content indexing and storage, content search and retrieval, digital signature, data authentication, space management, data retention management, load balancing, routing, failover, kickstart services, system monitoring and management. HP RISS User Management Provides application aware (LDAP) plug-ins for and MS Office document active archiving via the HP RIM for Microsoft Exchange, HP RIM for IBM Notes Domino, and HP File Migration Agent (HP FMA) application archiving software packages. HP RISS Replication Software Option Provides active-active (two-way) or active-passive (one-way) asynchronous replication services to another HP RISS system deployed either locally or remotely. HP RISS Backup Option Provides a dedicated, incremental backup solution of the HP RISS system to tape and supports both local backup and electronic vaulting environments for disaster protection purposes. 7 Compatibility HP Server Compatibility HP RISS is compatible with all HP servers that run any of the operating systems and applications listed below. Client OS Supported HP RISS is an appliance containing standard HP ProLiant servers running Linux on the management and performance servers and Windows on the archiving gateway servers, and are not visible to the customer in most situations. The Gateway server products (see below) are associated with the HP Reference Information Manager (HP RIM) for Exchange and Domino messaging environments. Other HP RIM products also have agents that run on customer servers such as HP File Migration Agent. 9 Service and Support, HP Care Pack, and Warranty Information Required Services The HP RISS, HP RIM, Backup, and Replication Installation and Startup services offers a set of modular services to provide quick start implementation of the HP RISS system as well as Replication and Backup options into your environment: The HP RISS Installation and Startup service installs and configures the HP RISS Base System plus additional factory integrated capacity, performance, or other listed upgrade components, excluding the HP RISS Backup and Replication options. The service provides a documented implementation of the HP RISS system and includes Installation, configuration, verification testing, documentation, and a customer orientation session. The HP RIM Installation and Startup service also addresses Exchange integration via the HP RISS Exchange Archiving Gateway component within the HP RISS system. 12 Configuration Information Step 1 Base Configuration Select one: Model Name HP RISS Base System Model Description HP RISS Base System provides the highly scaleable, core management infrastructure which includes a base rack, one group of Universal Smart Storage Cells (Universal Smartcell), the management servers, switches, software, and services required for archiving Reference Information. Its standard configuration includes HP unique features such as full text indexing and search capability, a grid computing architecture that supports multi-dimensional scaling and content protection, load balancing, access management and security. Up to three (3) Universal Smartcells can be supported in the Base System rack and can be either Factory or Field Installed. Part Number A7970D Step 2 Required Options HP RISS Application Archiving Software NOTE: The RISS Base System includes the "back-end" archive, index, and gridmanagement software. A "front-end" application archiving module must be added. Currently there are several to choose from - including HP RIM for Exchange, HP RIM for Domino, and HP File Migration Agent (HP FMA) which are ordered separately with details available from their respective Quickspecs. There are as well third party applications from our ISV partners that are connected to the HP RISS via the HP RISS API. HP RISS is designed to scale multiple gateways for increased performance in larger Exchange environments and the Base System rack can scale up to a total of three (3) archiving gateways in a standard configuration. AT LEAST ONE (1) GATEWAY is required if RIM for Messaging - Domino is ordered. For performance reasons customers may need multiple gateways per base unit - the SWD Sizer Tool will recommend as necessary - also consult your RISS Sales Development Manager for further info. NOTE: The HP RISS Domino Archiving Gateway is required if RIM for Messaging for Lotus Domino is ordered. An HP RISS Expansion Rack can support up to a maximum of ten (10) Universal Smart Storage Cell groups or a combination of Universal Smartcells and performance upgrades as determined by an SOW. NOTE: 1-year next day hardware on-site break/fix warranty. HP RISS Universal Smart Storage Cell Capacity Upgrade The HP RISS Base System comes standard with one (1) Universal Smart Storage Cell group (Universal Smartcell or USC). The USC replaces both the previous 850GB Smartcell group (PN A7973A) and the 1.4TB Smartcell group (PN AG442A). It is shipped with a total available mirrored capacity of 2.5TB in a highly protected RAID-6 configuration. It supports the 850GB limit in HP RISS release v1.4.x and the 1.4TB limit in release v1.5.x. When an HP RISS v1.4.x is upgraded to v1.5.x the capacity can be released from 850GB to1.4tb and is available to store additional data. As future software upgrades become available that can support larger storage capacities within a USC, the unused, available capacity can be released and made available for storing additional data. NOTE: Smart Storage Cell server group includes two (2) redundant storage servers, cables, license to use (LTU) for usable capacity, warranty, 1 year telephone support and software renewal subscription. Multiple HP RISS Store Portal Performance Upgrades can be ordered to scale Store performance to meet the SLA demands of many varying environments. The Base System can support more additional Store Portals but will require a separate statement of work (SOW) to ensure proper configuration. This performance upgrade is used to provide a dedicated Firewall and Load Balancer to improve replication performance in a replicated HP RISS configuration. Multiple HP RISS Base Systems can be configured in a star configuration and each additional HP RISS Base System will require an additional LTU. An LTU is required per replicated system.
