2 Begin by double clicking the left mouse button on the MSD GraphView on your desktop.

3 When Graph View is started the PC screen appears like this if an MSD 7530 ignition is connected and the ignition power is ON. The Product Connected box to the left indicates the version of the product connected and the box Data Source indicates the orgin of the data on the PC screen.

4 Left click on Help to view the Monitored items. The startup screen of the MSD Graphview when the MSD 7530 is not connected or the power to the ignition is OFF. The Monitored items would appear here if the 7530 was connected and power is ON. The Data items that can be edited will appear here when the 7530 is connected and power is ON. When a file is opened the data items will be visible here to view and edit for saving to a file

5 This area displays the Monitored items from the connected MSD 7530 ignition when power is ON. The GraphView screen is divided into 5 areas: This area is the Launch Curve, where the Launch Retard curve is displayed and can be edited. This area displays the user editable items of the 7530 ignition. This area is the Run Curve where the retard timing curve for Gears 2-6 can be displayed and edited. This area displays the RPM and retard timing of the connected 7530 ignition. Any of these areas can be Maximized for better viewing and editing clicking the box at the top of each upper right corner.

6 Click the left mouse button on Help to review the features of MSD GraphView.

7 Click on the Data Editor to view the Data items of the 7530 ignition. GraphView Help will allow you to find How To do anything within this program to View or Edit any ignition parameter and save the edits to a File on the PC or to the 7530 ignition as well as transfer the 7530 ignition data into or from the PC.

8 The 7530 data items that can be edited are displayed here along with the limits of the values and any comments on when these items are enabled/disabled.

9 Click on the Maximize box to bring the Data Editor to full screen size. Then we will edit some items.

10 To compress tree item left click the box to the left of that item. Now left click on RevMax box.

11 RevMax was compressed by left clicking on the square box to the left of RevMax. Now left click on the box to the left of Retards.

12 The complete Retards tree was compressed by left clicking on the square box to the left of the title Retards. Now left click on the box to the left of Retards.

13 The Retards were expanded by left clicking on the box to the left of Retards. Now left click on the box to the left of RevMax.

14 The RevMax item was expanded by left clicking on the box to the left of the RevMax. Now left click on the RPM under RevMax. To edit RevMax rpm value. An edit box will popup.

15 Left click the mouse on the UP arrow to increase the RevMax RPM value.

16 Any data item in the 7530 ignition can be viewed. Those items with a black dot in front can be edited as well. Now left click on Save to save the new RevMax rpm value.

17 The RevMax rpm has been edited as seen by the Red Dot to the left of rpm value and the Edit in the title box. Now minimize this window by left clicking on the middle box in the upper right corner.

18 Now left click on Transfer to pop up the transfer choice box. Now left click on PC to MSD to begin the data transfer to the MSD 7530 Ignition.

19 Left click User Data to begin data transfer to the MSD 7530 ignition. All Data could be selected to completely restore all of the EEPROM of the 7530 ignition. All Data transfer includes the user data and the complete MSD 7530 menu data. This is usually not required to transfer unless the menu data has been corrupted.

20 The EDIT has now changed to MSD, indicating the data transfer to the 7530 ignition. The Transfer progress box pops up to indicate the data transfer progress from the PC to the MSD 7530.

21 Now click on File and click on SaveAs to transfer the same data to a disk file for future use. If any notes would like to be added, click on View and Notes, add your user notes, then click on File, SaveAs.

22 The first file name is User01 and can be renamed to any file name the user desires. If the name is left User01 it will automatically be incremented each time File SaveAs is clicked on. Now left click on Open to save the data to this file. The MSD in the title boxes will then display FILE to indicate the data is in this file.

23 After the data is saved to the file, FILE now appears in all of the title boxes and the Data Source is now USER01.

24 Reload the MSD to PC by left clicking on Transfer, then left click on MSD to PC. This makes the data on the screen current to the MSD 7530 ignition connected.

25 Now left click on User Data to transfer in the data from the 7530 to the PC. A transfer box will pop up indicating the progress of the data transfer.

26 After the transfer from MSD to PC, the title boxes changed to MSD and the Data Source box displays MSD User V#M#. The version number and menu number are indicated by V# and M#.

27 Edit the Launch retard curve by first maximizing this window by left clicking the box in the upper right corner.

28 Edit the Launch retard curve by left clicking on the dot at 800 RPM. Holding down the left mouse button, now drag this dot to the new desired retard degree.

29 The retard at 800 RPM is now 10.0 degrees. Now add a new point at 2500 RPM at 0 degrees by clicking the right mouse button at 2500 RPM@0 DEG.

30 Left click on Add dot to Add a point here.

31 The curve will now snap to this new point from 800 RPM and 12,500 RPM.

32 Position the curser over the dot at 12,500 and hold down the left mouse button and drag the 12,500 dot to the 5 Degree position.

33 Now right click on the 8000 degrees and then left click on Add Dot to add a point at 8000 RPM.

34 Now the curve is 0 Degrees retard from 2500 to 8000 RPM and retards from 8000 to 12,500 RPM to 5 degrees retard.

35 Now left click on Transfer and then left click on Plot to MSD to transfer the new edited Launch curve to the MSD 7530 ignition.

36 The Launch retard curve is transferring to the MSD 7530 ignition as seen in the Transfer from PC to MSD in the progress transfer box. The EDIT in the title box now displays MSD to indicate the 7530 now has this curve.

37 Now minimize this window by left clicking on the double box at the upper right corner.

38 Now maximize the rpm meter window by left clicking outer box in the upper right corner.

39 This window monitors the engine RPM and the timing retard. The Retard meter displays the total sum of retards from the active retard curve and the step retards. The Bar graph displays the individual cylinder retard timing in the RET column. The RET value is the total retard timing for each cylinder, which is the sum of the active retard curve, any step retards and the cylinder retard value. Left click on a cylinder bar (or anywhere on the row) to bring up the cylinder sequence edit box. Now left click on CYL 8.

40 The CylDeg edit box pops up and the Data Editor box to allow viewing and editing any of the Cylinder retard values. Since we left clicked on the CYL 8 row the CylDeg box is displaying the SparkSEQ8 retard value. Now left click the UP button to increase the retard value for cylinder sequence 8.

41 Note before any edits all the title boxes display MSD indicating the screen displays the current 7530 values. Also the Bars in the graph are dark green indicating these are all values in the We have clicked on the UP button to change the cylinder timing to 2.8 degrees retarded. Now left click on the Save button to save this edit of SparkSEQ8.

42 The edit is complete. Note the Bar graph of CYL8 is now light green. This color is indicating this retard value is not in the 7530 ignition but only in the PC. Also the MSD in the title box is now EDIT and in the Data Editor. The dot next to the Deg. 2.8 is now red, indicating this value has been edited. Next left click on the double box in the upper right corner to minimize this window and we will transfer this edit to the MSD 7530 ignition. The CYL8 now is a light green color indicative this has been edited and is not in the 7530 ignition yet.

43 Left click on Transfer. Then left click on PC to MSD. The transfer progress box will pop up indicating the data is transferring to the MSD 7530 and the EDIT will change to MSD. Note the color of the CYL bar graph is now all dark green.

44 Left click on the User Data to transfer the edits to the 7530 ignition.

45 The Data is transferring from PC to the 7530 ignition.

46 Left click on edit. Next left click on Copy Curve. This curve can then be pasted into the Run Curve window.

47 Left click on Edit. Next left click on Paste Curve. The curve that was last copied will be pasted here. The Launch retard curve will appear here and the title box will change from MSD to EDIT.

48 Now left click on transfer and left click PC to MSD. This will begin the transfer to the 7530 ignition.

49 The PC Data is transferring to the 7530 ignition.

50 With the engine now running at near idle speed we are able to monitor the RPM, timing and other ignition inputs such as: Step retard input control wires, Rev limiter control wires, the input trigger source, the Cam Sync input and the state of the Shift light and RPM activated switch. The Data Editor window can be Minimized, compressed or moved to allow viewing all of the Monitor items. Position the cursor over the corner of the RPM window until the diagonal arrow appears. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the RPM window to a larger size for easier viewing.

51 The RPM meter window can be maximized or stretched to view the RPM and timing retard data. The RPM and Retard meter and bar graphs are now enlarged for better viewing/editing. This window can be dragged to the right side of the screen so that the Monitor data and Data Editor can be viewed/accessed as well.

52 The RPM meter window is now moved so that the Data Editor window and the Monitor items are visible. Note: Its is possible to accidently overlap a moved window when the other windows are placed on top when they are active.

53 Be sure and download MSD Pro Data Plus from the Instruction Download webpage. Once downloaded, click on Windows Start button, and click on Run. Select the directory where the pdpv183.exe for MSD Pro Data Plus was downloaded and click OK to begin installing MSD Pro Data Plus. After the install, close all open windows. The Pro Data and GraphView icons are automatically placed on your desktop screen. Double click the GraphView icon to open the GraphView program. The first time the Pro Data Plus program is executed you will be prompted to select a COM port for connection to the 7530 MSD Ignition. Select an available COM port from the choices given.
