How do I configure the Linksys Router (WRVS4400N) and the Linksys QuickVPN client software to create a secure VPN connection? A. QuickVPN is an easy way to set up VPN software on your remote computer or laptop with a simple username and password to securely access networks based on the WRVS4400N VPN Router. Linksys QuickVPN works as an interface with the Microsoft VPN client application found in Windows 2000 and XP. The scenario is a user from a remote location, such as a coffee shop or airport, that accesses the office or home network with Linksys QuickVPN. The remote laptop user is directly connected to the Internet and assigned a public IP by an Internet Service Provider (ISP). A QuickVPN tunnel is connected with the user name and password configured in the VPN client accounts with a Linksys router and the remote laptop that runs the Linksys VPN client software. Two parts are used to set up the Linksys QuickVPN with the Linksys router. 2 Page 2 of 5 1. Access the web-based setup page of the router. 2. When the web-based setup page of the router appears, click VPN and choose VPN Client Accounts. 3. Enter a username in the User Name field. 4. Enter a password in the Password field. Re-enter it in the Reenter to Confirm field. 5. Choose Yes or No in the Allow User to Change Password section. 6. The new user accounts appear in the VPN Client List Table. 7. When the VPN Client List Table appears, make sure Active is checked. Note: After you add the first user account and the router detects that it is currently configured to the default network, it automatically attempts to change itself to be on a 10.x.x.0 network. The network numbering is random (a possible network can be , for example). This is done to prevent conflicts with remote networks. The router address is set to 10.x.x.1. You are still able to access the web-based setup utility of the router at the default address since all DNS requests automatically redirect to the new address. If you previously had static IP addresses configured on the network (for example, , etc.), they need to be changed to the new network numbering.

Note: The Linksys QuickVPN Software is compatible with Windows 2000 and Windows XP only. 1. Click Start > All Programs. Choose Linksys QuickVPN from the All Programs menu, and then choose Linksys VPN Client. 2. When the Linksys VPN Client window appears, choose the tunnel you wish to connect to from the Profile Name drop-down menu. 3. Enter the username and password created when you established the QuickVPN User Account in the User Name and Password fields. In this example "yourusername" is used. 4. Enter the WAN IP address of the router in the Server Address field. If there is a fully-qualified domain name that exists for the location (such as a DDNS domain name), you can enter an address instead (such as mylinksysrouter.com).

4 Page 4 of 5 5. Click Save and then Connect. If a connection is made, a status window appears with a summary of the connection details. 6. The QuickVPN System Tray icon turns green to indicate a successful connection. Right-click this icon at any time in a session to perform various operations.
