11 HSIN in Use: Phoenix Events 2015 Organizations: DHS Intelligence and Analysis Field Operations, Phoenix and Scottsdale Police Departments, Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center Sectors: Emergency Management, Law Enforcement, Event Planning and Coordination Date: Dec 2014-Feb 2015 Summary: From New Year s Eve through February 2, 2015, the greater Phoenix area hosted four major sporting events including the Super Bowl XLIX and welcomed almost 700,000 people to the region. HSIN supported situational awareness and helped more than 100 agencies and organizations coordinate their activities from the early days of planning until the events were complete. With a single click, I could find out what was going on, stay engaged, and more easily meet everyone s needs. That s the beauty of HSIN. Special Agent in Charge Matthew C. 12 HSIN in Use: Operation Strong Safety (OSS) Organization: Texas Department of Public Safety Sector: Human and Narcotics Trafficking Date: Ongoing since June 2014 Summary: OSS is a multi-agency, data driven law enforcement effort based in HSIN and led by the Texas Department of Public Safety designed to conduct border security operations and reduce significant criminal activity in the Texas-Mexico border region, including human and drug trafficking. HSIN provides mapping functionalities and the capability to stream video from our air surveillance platforms. When commanders are outside the command post, they are able to see the information and really grasp the significance of the event. 13 HSIN in Use: BRAVE Project Organizations: Baton Rouge Area Violence Elimination (BRAVE), Louisiana State Analytical & Fusion Exchange (LA-SAFE), Louisiana State University Sectors: Law Enforcement Date: Ongoing Summary: The BRAVE project in coordination with LA-SAFE is using HSIN as part of their innovative violent crime reduction strategy involving social media to track and analyze criminal data Homeland Security Information Network 13

14 HSIN in Use: Interstate Drug Trafficking Bust Organizations: National High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, Domestic Highway Enforcement Strategy, California & Oregon Fusion Centers & Illinois State Highway Patrol Sector: Law Enforcement Date: 2012 Summary: HSIN was used to share information between states which led to discovery and confiscation of a significant quantity of illicit drugs HSIN fills an information sharing niche that we couldn t find anywhere else. More than 500 officers from federal, state, and local levels as well as analysts needed a way to communicate, and HSIN filled that gap for us. 15 HSIN in Use: Kentucky Derby Organizations: Kentucky Joint Emergency Services Unit, National Weather Service, local law enforcement & public health officials Sectors: Emergency Management, Law Enforcement Dates: April May 2013 & 2014 Summary: During several events over two weeks with more than 500,000 in attendance, HSIN was used by more than 70 officials to increase efficiency and decrease false alarms with the use of real-time video and crossreferencing from previous years information Homeland Security Information Network 15

Sectors: Emergency Management, Law Enforcement Date: Established 2014, ongoing effort Summary: HSIN is the designated system across all 55 W.Va. counties to share information that will help school officials and first responders prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies It just made sense to use HSIN for an initiative of this magnitude. HSIN is more than a simple repository of data. The platform provides the resources we need for collaborative incident and emergency response operations. Jimmy Gianato W.Va.
