1 CADET S Thunderbolt Composite Squadron 295 Revised January 2014 This packet includes one promotion worksheet for each Achievement and Milestone Award. Pay particular attention to the "achievement requirements" section as each Achievement is unique! Cadets are responsible for seeking out staff signatures and ensuring the worksheet is kept updated. Remember that promoting and tracking progress is the responsibility of the individual Cadet! INSTRUCTIONS 1) Each worksheet must be submitted through the chain of Command for promotions to be approved! 2) As a Cadet completes each requirement he or she will fill-in the date and have a member of the Cadet Staff place their initials to document agreement. 3) Once all requirements have been completed the Cadet will present the worksheet to their immediate superior for overall approval. 4) The worksheet will be processed for promotion or returned with an explanation of what must be completed for promotion. 5) Worksheets processed for promotion will not be returned as they become part of the personnel file.

5 SQUADRON 295 PHASE I COMPLETION REQUIREMENT PROMOTION TO STAFF SERGEANT THE WRIGHT BROTHERS AWARD Four Requirements to Earn the Wright Brothers Award REQUIREMENT 1 You will complete a comprehensive closed- book examination covering material from the "Learn to Lead" Leadership text. It is highly recommended that you review Chapters 1, 2 and 3 before attempting the examination! As your examinations have been completed entirely online and open- book to this point, you may request to take a practice test to become familiar with the format. You will need to speak to the Squadrons Testing Officer to either take the practice test or to schedule the Wright Brothers Examination. NOTE: your Flight Commander will introduce you to the Testing Officer if you do not know who that person is. REQUIREMENT 2 You must attempt and pass the Cadet Physical Fitness Test for your age and gender. See the "Cadet Super Chart" for specific requirements. A Cadet will need to request a PT Waiver through the Deputy Commander for Cadets if he or she can not complete the CPFT due to recent injury or ailment. REQUIREMENT 3 You must have attended three Squadron, Group, Wing or Region activities or events since you first joined CAP. These activities or events may include but are not limited to; orientation flights, BCOP, Encampment, social functions, conferences, Emergency Services training activities, camping etc. REQUIREMENT 4 During Achievement 2 (Hap Arnold), you were introduced to the CAP Form 50 "Cadet Evaluation Form" and were shown how it is used to improve your Leadership Abilities. To complete all the requirements for the Wright Brothers Award you will receive a formal CAP Form 50 from your Flight Commander and the Cadet Commander. They will become part of your file and used to help track your development as a Non- Commissioned Officer. You must request the CAP Form 50 from your Flight Commander once you have completed all other requirements for the Wright Brothers Award. 11 SQUADRON 295 PHASE II COMPLETION REQUIREMENT SUSTAINED PROMOTION TO CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT THE ARMSTRONG ACHIEVEMENT Five Requirements to Complete the Armstrong Achievement REQUIREMENT 1 As a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer you should have the ability to prepare both simple and detailed correspondence in a military and/ or business format. To demonstrate this ability you will; prepare a memorandum addressed to Squadron Commander through the Deputy Commander for Cadets. In your memorandum you must 1) request review of your record, 2) request promotion and 3) announce your desire to begin taking the Mitchell Award examinations. It is highly recommended that you prepare your memorandum in the style found in the Air Force Tongue and Quill. REQUIREMENT 2 Cadet Senior NCOs and Officers are required to mentor, develop and critique subordinate Cadets. As such, you will prepare a CAP Form 50 (Cadet Evaluation) on a Cadet currently in Phase 1. After completing the form you will conduct a mentoring session with that Cadet and go over the evaluation form. REQUIREMENT 3 Senior NCOs and Officers must be able to speak and write clearly, concisely and exact when presenting opinions, giving orders and instructing. To demonstrate this ability you will 1) prepare a 500 word essay and present a 5-7 minute speech on the following topic: My greatest leadership fault and how I overcame it. REQUIREMENT 4 You must complete the online, open- book Leadership Test for Chapter 8. Successfully complete the Drill Test for Chapter 8 and pass the Cadet Physical Fitness Test. Note: Your most recent passed Physical Fitness test must not be older than 4 months, if it is you will be required to retake the test. REQUIREMENT 5 You will prepare your promotion request packet in the following order: Cover Page (this page) Memorandum (see requirement 1 above) Completed CAP Form 50 (see requirement 2 above) Essay (see requirement 3 above) Achievement 8 Promotion Form (next page of this packet) Submit your packet to the Squadron Deputy Commander for Cadets. Upon review you will be notified if your promotion is approved. It is highly recommended that you review each module before attempting the examination! You will need to speak to the Squadrons Testing Officer to schedule the Billy Mitchell Aerospace Examination. REQUIREMENT 3 You must attempt and pass the Cadet Physical Fitness Test for your age and gender. See the "Cadet Super Chart" for specific requirements. 18 SQUADRON 295 PHASE III COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS PROMOTION TO CAPTAIN THE AMELIA EARHART AWARD Four Requirements to Earn the Amelia Earhart Award REQUIREMENT 1 You will complete one comprehensive closed- book Leadership Examination and one comprehensive closedbook Aerospace Examination. REQUIREMENT 2 You must attempt and pass the Cadet Physical Fitness Test for your age and gender. See the "Cadet Super Chart" for specific requirements. Those unable to complete all or part of the Physical Fitness Test due to recent injury or ailment will need to request a PT Waiver through Deputy Commander for Cadets. Cadets will need to retake the CPFT if the most recently completed test is more than six months old. REQUIREMENT 3 You must have one Staff Service Activity credited to your personnel file from a Group, Wing, Region or National Activity since receiving the Mitchell Award. These activities include but are not limited to; BCOP, Encampment, SAREXs, Group or higher sponsored activities, CAC etc. This requirement may be waived on a case by case basis. REQUIREMENT 4 1) You will prepare a letter to the Squadron Commander through the Deputy Commander for Cadets. In it you will request a "Board of Review" be scheduled to evaluate your desire for completion of Phase III and promotion to Captain. The Board of Review will consist of one Air Force Officer, a neighboring CAP Squadron Commander and one Group Staff Officer. A mutually convenient time and date will be set for the Board to interview you. The Air Force Tongue and Quill should be referenced regarding style and format. 2) You will prepare a resume that highlights your achievements, awards, honors and activity participation during your Cadet Career. The Air Force Tongue and Quill should be referenced regarding style and format. Submit your resume attached to the "Request Letter" as noted above.
