3 Security Concerns

4 The two main areas of concerns Vulnerability related to data quality. Data accessibility and data storage; The following example scenarios can be created with small resources and support of few people, and all of them needs, to be delivered, the knowledge of the network layout: Poison and pollute water distribution networks; Create explosive underground environments using the gas and the waste water network; Disrupt telecoms and data links; Bring to collapse power grids.

5 The Power of Information Model the movement of a non-reactive tracer material through the network over time; Model the movement and fate of a reactive material as it grows (e.g., a disinfection byproduct) or decays (e.g., chlorine residual) over time; Model the age of water throughout a network Track the percent of flow from a given node reaching all other nodes over time Model reactions both in the bulk flow and at the pipe wall. To operate the modeling you need a precise 3D layout of the distribution network in X, Y, Z cordinates

7 Milan Area Test Site A perfect scenario for the project area has been localized on a residential and old industrial area, with an extension of about 68, square meters. Selecting criteria: urban models; site conditions, with regards to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, parked cars, presence of trees, etc.; site utility congestion, high, medium, or low; ratio sidewalk/road; population percentage.

11 Operative Framework for Historical Record Collection Data Source The informations are sorted and prepared by the utility owners to be shared Data Collection A team, after having requested the data, collects it and verify the integrity and the versioning Data Mash Data are analised, processed, and meshed on a single cartography

12 Data Meshing Data normalization has been one of the most challenging activities of the project. This activity has been performed with the purpose of obtaining the best possible quality with all the available information without any site survey or related activity. The actual final layout has been delivered in GIS format with detailed attribute tables populated with all the available information.

17 Data Display and representation The need to represent the positioning of the underground-network infrastructures in a clear and fully understandable way has been one of the aims of this project. For this purpose the following web based software has been tested on the project: AutocadWS web based portal for sharing and collaboration on DWG files; MapGuide on proprietary server, 2D WebGIS; SkylineGlobe Enterprise, 3D WebGIS solution;
