3 HOME HEALTH BACK TO BASICS APRIL 28 8:30 AM TO 4:30 PM The Illinois HomeCare and Hospice Council is offering this program for individuals with some home health agency experience who may be in a new role within an agency, have changed employers or simply want a refresher course in the basic requirements. Since most staff members learn on the job, Medicare myths still prevail in the industry. In this session, the presenters will go to the source documents to bust the myths and review the basics of what is required to operate a Medicare certified home health agency in Illinois and where to go for information and assistance. PURPOSE: To bust the myths and review the basics of what is required to operate a Medicare certified home health agency in Illinois. OBJECTIVES Describe the rules and regulations agencies must meet in order to be in compliance with Illinois licensing laws and Medicare regulations. Describe how to provide required infection control equipment and services in the role as health care employers. Identify what an organization must do to participate as a Medicaid provider in Illinois. Discuss the Medicare home health payment system. Discuss the Medicare claim filing requirements and other financial management requirements when operating a home health agency. Discuss how to oversee a HIPAA compliance plan. IHHC is offering this review of hospice basics to ensure that hospice providers are aware of recent changes, understand what is required, and know what they must do. 10 WOUND CARE SEMINAR NOVEMBER 12 8 AM TO 4 PM This class is designed to be an interactive session to provide the attendee with knowledge necessary to ensure proper care and treatment of wounds in his or her agency. We will review various wound types, assessment criteria and wound care options. We will discuss the wound changes in the Oasis C-1 document. We will also discuss options for developing a wound care team and medical supply formulary at your agency. OBJECTIVES Identify characteristics of venous, arterial, diabetic, pressure and surgical wounds. Discuss pressure ulcer staging. Identify treatment options for: venous, arterial, diabetic and pressure ulcers; surgical wounds and skin tears. Identify compression safety tips and demonstrate appropriate application of a multilayer compression wrap. Discuss wound documentation requirements, including wound assessment and wound care. Discuss the OASIS C-1 changes as they apply to wound documentation. Discuss options for developing a wound care team at your agency. 11 MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSE (MOOC) IHHC is proud to announce the launch of a free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), in cooperation with IHA, the SIU School of Medicine, and the University of Illinois Springfield. It s called One Patient, One Team: Palliative Care Approaches Across the Continuum. The course will demonstrate how Palliative Care s comprehensive symptom management and social services support network can be tailored to the unique needs of patients and their families throughout the trajectory of serious illness. Below are the six modules, which are mostly broken down into 5-10 minute video segments.
