1 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOMENT REQUIRED Bachelor s Degree 120 hours or 1 uniquely qualifying activity Master s Degree 80 hours or 1 uniquely qualifying activity Two+ Advanced Degrees 40 hours or 1 uniquely qualifying activity National Board Teacher 40 hours or 1 uniquely qualifying activity PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PURPOSES (A) Advance both the licensee's knowledge and skills as a teacher consistent with the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards and the Illinois Content Area Standards in the licensee's areas of certification, endorsement, or teaching assignment in order to keep the licensee current in those areas. (B) Develop the licensee's knowledge and skills in areas determined to be critical for all Illinois teachers defined by the State Board of Education, known as "State priorities". (C) Address the knowledge, skills, and goals of the licensee's local school improvement plan, if the teacher is employed in an Illinois public or State-operated elementary school, secondary school, or cooperative or joint agreement with a governing body or board of control. (D) Expand the licensee's knowledge and skills in an additional teaching field or toward the acquisition of another teaching license, endorsement, or relevant education degree. (E)* Address the needs of serving students with disabilities, including adapting and modifying the general curriculum related to the Illinois Learning Standards to meet the needs of students with disabilities and serving such students in the least restrictive environment. Teachers who hold licenses endorsed for special education must devote at least 50% of their continuing professional development activities to this purpose. 2 ACTIVITY NAME EVIDENCE OF COMPLETION CREDIT 1. Collaborative planning/professional improvement teams Planning/delivery of professional development activities at the building or district level. 2. Peer review and coaching. DEFINITIONS: One-on-one assistance between pairs of teachers Peer review: Occurs solely under formal agreement between a district and the teachers or their union. Includes specific goals for the teacher under review, a program of intervention specifically related to his/her teaching skills, observation of teaching sessions lasting 20 minutes or longer, assessment of the performance of the teacher under review and a final written report from the reviewing teacher. Peer coaching: Sessions of 20 minutes or longer during which teacher s observe each other s teaching and discuss their observations. May be under the purview of the employing district and/or by informal agreement among participating teachers. 3. Mentoring Program Participation, for a minimum of one quarter of a school year, in a remediation process formulated under Section 24A-5 of the School Code. A written description of the purpose and intended product of the team/committee, and A record of the all scheduled meetings, and Attendance records reflecting the educator s name, and A copy/description of the plan, activity or other product developed by the group. For peer review: A written description of the school/district/union exclusive representative peer review program, and A record of the licensee s assignment and observation schedule, and A log of the observation sessions and other meetings, that included dates, beginning and ending times, and topics discussed. For peer coaching: A written description of the school/district or exclusive representative peer coaching program, and A log of the observation sessions and other meetings, that includes dates, beginning and ending times, and topics discussed. Mentor or recipient teacher: A written description the school or district or institution mentoring /remediation program, including the number and length of the required sessions, and A record of assignment as recipient or mentor, and A log of the observation sessions and consultation meetings, including the dates, beginning and ending times, and topics discussed. Consulting teacher: A written description the school/district or Mentor: Supervises preparation and review of lesson plans for observation of the recipient, Observes recipient teaching, institution mentoring /remediation program, 2 of 11 Attendance at 2/3 of all scheduled meetings 3-5 meetings 5 6+ meetings 8 Peer review: 3-5 observations: 9 6+ observations: 11 Peer coaching: 3-5 observations: 5 6+ observations: 8 Meetings, observations and sessions must a minimum of 20 minutes long. Meets with administrators or other authorized school personnel to discuss the recipient s progress. 4. Site-based management related to the school improvement plan (SIP). including the number and length of the required sessions, and A record of assignment as consulting teacher, and A log of the observation sessions and consultation meetings, including the dates, beginning and ending times, and topics discussed. A written description of the purpose and intended product of the team, committee, board, etc., and A record of the all scheduled meetings, and Attendance records that include the educator s name, and A copy of the product or recommendation developed by the team or committee. Consulting Teacher: 3-5 meetings: meetings + 1 observation: 9 6+ meetings: 8 6+ meetings + 1 observation: 11 Meetings and observations are distinct activities and are not interchangeable. Attendance at 2/3 of all scheduled meetings 3-5 meetings: 8 Team/committee activities related to budgeting/resource allocation, textbook choice, curriculum modification, scheduling, 6+ meetings: or other aspects of school operations related 11 to the SIP. 5. Coordinating community resources A copy of the corresponding section of the 4 SIP plan outlining the needs addressed, and A written statement by the licensee that includes the names of participating Working with community agencies to community agencies/resources and the 3 of 11
4 structure/facilitate interaction between building/district staff and/or students (beyond one s own students/classes) to meet one or more needs identified in the school improvement plan (SIP). 6. Facilitating/coordinating parent education programs; presenting at parent education programs Participation, to the extent that is not part of a licensee s teaching assignment, in an established school/district parent education program consisting of 2+ or more sessions related to student achievement or other aspects of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) Facilitation/Coordination Includes, but is not necessarily limited to, Scheduling meeting places, Ensuring the availability of needed technology (screen for PowerPoint, pencils, note paper, etc.), Preparation and dissemination of announcements of the events and program brochures/agendas. Addressing housekeeping during sessions Oversight of registration/sign in Presentations Delivering presentations to parents that relate to student academics and/or other SIP plan goals 7. Business, school, or community partnerships. Formal or informal exchange of information and resources between a teacher and a business, education institution, or other entity for the purpose of improving student achievement and/or addressing other aspects of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). outcomes of the partnership, and A signed statement from the authorized school/district official confirming the licensee s formal assignment to these duties. Facilitation/Coordination An official description of the parent education program, workshop, presentation, etc., and A signed statement from the authorized school/district official confirming the licensee s formal assignment to perform these duties. Delivering presentations The official program or agenda that includes the licensee s name as a presenter A written description of the partnership goal(s) and need(s) and the activities conducted by the teacher, and A copy of the corresponding section of the SIP plan outlining the needs addressed Facilitation/Coordin ation 4 per 2+ sessions Presentations 4 per 2+ sessions 3-5 meetings 5 6+ meetings: 8 4 of 11

Supervision of a student teacher or prestudent-teaching clinical placement Student teacher: Pursuant to Section of the IL School Code, the licensee is named as the supervising teacher by an approved IL teacher preparation program. Pre-Student-Teaching Clinical: Supervision of one or more teacher education students in pre-student-teaching clinical placements/practicums. Student Teacher: The written agreement between the licensee s employing school district and the higher education institution placing the student teacher naming the licensee as the supervising teacher; Pre-Student-Teaching Clinical: A log that includes the dates and times of service, a description of the service provided and the names of the candidates involved. Student Teacher: 30 per fiveyear renewal cycle Pre-service Clinical: Requires a minimum of 40 hours of supervision 12 per fiveyear renewal cycle 9. Completion of college coursework Successfully completed coursework from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Coursework must be directly related to the teaching assignment and must address the professional standards set forth in 23 IL Administrative Code Subpart B. Does not include developmental/remedial coursework. Official sealed transcript from a higher education institution that documents the course number, title, grade, and amount of credit earned. 1 semester hour = 15 1 quarter hour = Teaching college or university courses. DEFINTION: Teaching coursework at a regionally accredited institution of higher education that is related to the licensee s PK-12 teaching assignment and addresses the professional standards set forth in 23 IL Administrative Code Subpart B. Does not include developmental/remedial coursework. A course syllabus, a signed contract/ agreement or other documentation prepared by the college/ university that includes the course number and title and identifies the licensee as the instructor of the course 20 per course per five-year renewal cycle Multiple courses may be counted during a 5-year renewal cycle providing the courses are not alike. The same course, taught multiple times over a 5-year renewal cycle, can only be counted once. In cases where 2 5 of 11
6 11. Portfolio of student and teacher work. Preparation of at least 5 portfolio artifacts or entries, each of which relates to a different assignment/lesson Samples of the work of a minimum of 3 students related to the specified assignment/lesson and A written analysis prepared by the licensee that describes 1.The assignment/lesson and the teacher s goal(s) for the assignment/lesson, 2.The instructional strategies and materials used and the reasons for their selection; 3.An evaluation of the students work and the extent to which the teaching/learning goals were met, 4.The successful and less-than-successful elements of the assignment/lesson 5.Improvements that can be made to the assignment/lesson or in the methodological approach to the assignment/lesson. 12. Attending Workshops/Conferences, etc. In Illinois ISBE Evidence of Completion form #77-21 signed by an ISBE approved provider and issued at the conclusion of the activity. Out-of-State An activity attended outside of Illinois or a national-level conference held in Illinois: A copy of the official agenda or program disseminated to attendees. (Registration receipts are not accepted.) courses appear similar the licensee may submit a written description of how and why the courses differ. Examples include: Courses with the same number and/or title Courses with different titles but the same catalog course description, and Courses taught at different institutions for which the syllabi are substantially the same CPDU for 1 clock hour of attendance Does not include meals or other breaks. 6 of 11
7 13. Presenter at Workshops/Conferences, etc. 14. ISBE training for Quality Assurance external reviewers DEFINTION: ISBE training pursuant to the rules for Public Schools Evaluation, Recognition and Supervision (23 Ill. Adm. Code 1). A copy of the official agenda or program in which the licensee is identified as a presenter. Evidence of completion issued by ISBE. First presentation of a topic: 8 Additional presentations of the same topic: 3 One of the following can be claimed once per renewal cycle. First training sequence: 10 Subsequent training sequences: ISBE Training for review of IL approved teacher education programs. Evidence of completion issued by ISBE. One of the following can be claimed once per renewal cycle. First training sequence: 10 Subsequent training sequences: Research/inquiry projects DEFINTION: Teacher-developed studies spanning a minimum of 1/4 of the school year. 17. Observation of teaching in schools or business/industry. A series of systematic, purposeful observations of other teachers or of business/industry work activities that relate directly to the licensee s endorsement area(s). A written protocol that identifies the education issue investigated, the methodology used, and the hypothesis. A written summary of the inquiry and its results that describes what the licensee has learned and identifies the implications of the experience for the individual s future teaching. A description of the observations prepared by the licensee that includes: 1.the teaching or work to be observed, 2.the purpose for the observations, 3.the frequency and length of the of the observations, 4.A description of the knowledge gained and how it will be used to inform the licensee s teaching skills and techniques. For a project involving the licensee s own students: 8 For a project involving other teachers and their students: of 11

Travel Travel, lasting a minimum of 3 consecutive days at the destination, that relates directly to the teaching assignment, student achievement or the School Improvement Plan (SIP) Requires approval* by the Local Professional Development Committee or the Regional Office of Education at least 30 days prior to the travel date. A required written request for approval must include: A description of how the travel relates directly to the teaching assignment, student achievement or the SIP; Identifies the activities /aspects of the travel that will contribute to the licensee s teaching skills and/or techniques; and A description of the goals of the travel. 19. Study Group A series of regular, structured, collaborative activities designed to investigate improvements in student achievement and/or other aspects of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). 20. Service on statewide education committees. * Includes, but is not limited to, the following: State Educator Preparation & Licensure Board (SEPLB), ISBE strategic agenda teams, State Advisory Council on Education of Children with Disabilities. *Does not include local or regional councils or committees The travel itinerary and A written journal prepared by the licensee that summarizes the experience and reflects on how he or she plans to use what was learned in the context of his or her teaching. A written statement of purpose for the group; a list of the group s members; and meeting minutes that document the licensee s attendance Meeting minutes that document the licensee s attendance.* If meeting minutes cannot be submitted due to breach of confidentiality, copies of attendance forms and/or sign-in sheets may be substituted. Credit is awarded upon submission of all required evidence of completion. Twelve 12 per year Fifteen 15 per year for foreign language teachers that travel to regions where the language they teach is the primary language spoken. Requires attendance of a minimum of 2/3 of all scheduled group meetings/activities. 3-5 meetings attended: 6 6 or more meetings attended: 8 Attendance at and participation in no less than 2/3 of all scheduled meetings 15 per year of service 8 of 11
9 21. Work/learn program/internship for teachers. Licensee participation in a structured program/internship, related to the teaching assignment, for purposes of gaining knowledge that will inform the educators content knowledge of the subject. 22. Curriculum and/or or assessment development activities. DEFINITION Participation on a formally recognized school, district, regional, state, national or international group focusing on developing and refining, curriculum and/or assessment to align to IL teaching/learning standards. Does not include activities related to scheduling, proctoring, or scoring assessments. Signed letter from the employer or other entity verifying the nature of the program or internship, the length of the program, and the frequency with which the licensee will interact with knowledgeable program/industry representatives. Documentation of membership, and Meeting minutes documenting attendance; and The school or district description of the group goals and expected outcomes, and Copies of the tangible results. Such, a copy of the new curricula or assessments, or copy of the revised curricula or assessments, a copy of the curricula or assessments implementation plan 1-10 contact hours: contact hours: 8 21 or more contact hours: 11 Attendance at and participation in no less than 2/3 of all scheduled meetings 3-5 meetings attended: 8 /semester; 4 /quarter 6 or more meetings attended: 11 /semester; 6 /quarter 23. Team or department leadership Appointment to a position of leadership, for a minimum 1 semester, related to the teaching assignment. Does not include tasks such as: scheduling meetings, reserving meeting space generating and sending correspondence taking and disseminating minutes copying materials arranging technology for presentations A job description or an original signed letter from the school or district administrator authorized to make the assignment, that includes: A description of the assigned responsibilities, Timeframes for completion, and An explanation of how the assignments relates to department/building/district instructional goals ISBE Quality Assurance performance review DEFINITIONS: Participation in the entirety of an ISBE For external, curriculum or higher education review teams: Documentation of ISBE assignment to the team, Documentation from ISBE or its authorized representative documenting participation in 9 of 11 For external, curriculum or higher education review teams: 15 (limited to 1 per semester.
10 Quality Assurance performance review. ( 23 Ill. Adm. Code 1) Participation on a curriculum review panel convened for the approval of a teacher preparation program (105 ILCS 5/ (c)) Participation on a team convened for accreditation and approval of the of IL higher education teacher preparation programs. 25. Publication Authorship and publication of educational articles, columns, or books about education research, experiences, issues, approaches, systems, etc. that are directly related to the licensee s teaching assignment. 26. Professional association and/or labor organization initiative. Official appointments related to professional policies, standards and structures planning and development and/or those related to the entirety of the review process. For internal review teams: Documentation of assignment to a schoolbased or district-wide team, Documentation from the authorized school/district representative documenting participation in the entirety of the review process. Copy of each item published that includes the publication date and the name of the publisher. For fine arts work such as development of a curriculum or software package, the copyright shall serve as the evidence of publication. A written description of the position and/or activity; Copies of tangible products developed by the group, A summary of intangible group outcomes. For internal review teams: Eight (8 ) 1.For a book that is technical or research-based: 40 2.For a book of any other type: 20 3.For one or more chapters of a book or for an article published in a refereed journal: 15 4.For a column published at the statewide level: 8 5.For a column published at the local level: 5 6.Multiple authors: The will be divided among the authors as they deem appropriate.
