Agenda GPON for Mobile Backhaul LTE, and LTE Requirements What is GPON? Discussion on Clock distribution Network Topologies and service delivery optimization Further discussion Conclusion
LTE Main features
LTE Features
GPON is Fiber optimization! Time Division Multiplex Access GPON is not FTTH...Only
LTE Deployment strategy Overlap 3g cells 1st phase LTE today supports mobile broadband data only, with no inherent voice component it s packet switched only, with no support for circuit switching to carry 2G/3G voice. As LTE handsets become available, they will be using 2G or 3G radio support for voice, via circuitswitched fallback (CSFB). In 2012, LTE is expected to have the capability to carry voice over IP packets using the VoLTE standard.
LTE Deployment strategy 1st phase: Overlap LTE to current 3G network
Then improve coverage The need to deploy Micros and Pico-cells and Femtocells on poles, buildings, places with no line of sight, requires wired network, mainly fiber, for the backhaul Needs are not only one Bandwidth requirement can vary, depending on cell size or type
PON AsGa s point of view Solutions currently used are expensive and not right for new generation of network New generation require better quality, more bandwidth, no dark spots. To feed dark spots, wired solutions are needed, since line of sight is required for wireless. G.PON, has been excellent option for FTTH, but not for solutions that requires synchronism To further reduce and optimize cost, same network can be used to offer service for medium large subscriber Brazil has large number of Condominium Condominios Residenciais 4 Play can be offered using Convergent Platform
Save energy and room at concentration site : G.PON for mobile Backhaul - PROS One G.PON port serves up to 32 (or 64) remote points Optimum network: Three network is very efficient and reduce cost Synergy with new broad band networks (FTTH) Process, cables, tools can be shared Synchronism: G.PON is TDM, so can be very efficient for TDM transport and clock distribution, natively. Transparent 1588-V2 clock can be added when phase alignment is required Small size, low power consuptions ONT
G.PON for mobile Backhaul - CONs Bandwidth may not be enough for LTE Only average of 40Mb/s per port ( With 64 splits) Synchronism: Solution currently on the marked does not use TDM native G.PON frame to offer clock distribution.
G.PON for mobile Backhaul Bandwidth may not be enough for LTE Only average of 40Mb/s per port Proposed Solution can use TDM-PON + WDM-PON to provide more than 30Gb/s into a single fiber. TDM-PON (2,5G) will soon evolve to XG-PON (10G) and can coexist sharing same fiber infrastructure Proposed solution can use 10GE WDM today. Number of splits can be reduced (8 or 16) Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation can be used to optimize user experience
G.PON for mobile Backhaul Synchronism: Solution currently on the market does not use TDM native G.PON frame to offer clock distribution. Proposed solution will make use of TDM G.PON ITU standards and use SyncE to deliver synchronism to base stations Synchronism at OLT can be taken from local 2MHz/Mb/s existing legacy clock. No need for PTN or special network capabilities to distribute synchronism. When and where E1 is necessary, emulation will be used. Common clock option can be used, instead of adaptative clock recovery IEEE support will be implemented, as Transparent clock, reporting latency in the GPON domain.
G.PON Backhaul e Business Product Concept: OLT: Low port density: serving 64 sites with 8 splits, 256 sites with 32 splits or 512 sites with 64 splits, 6 x GE ports, 4 x 10GE ports Option to have 16E1s or 2xSTM1 ports ONTs: 2 x E1 and 8 x E1, to G.PON CPE, following 984.X 3 FE + 1 sync - GE Port, Clock (syncronysm) SyncE ( and V2 TC support)
G.PON OLT Main features of the OLT: Can be deployed Into outdoor Cabinets 8 ports G.PON 6 ports GE, 2 combo ports 4 Ports STM-1/4 4 ports 10GE, 1 port for Syncronysm IN 2 rack unit, W power consumption Redundant power supply AC and DC power SFP compatible ports including the G.PON ports
