3 Billing Statements Online presentations

4 Billing Statements - background Campus Accounts Receivable System (CARS) generates monthly billing statements. The student s CARS account is billed for: Tuition and registration fees Campus housing University Health Services Recreational Sports membership Computer lab fees Other miscellaneous charges including CalSO

5 Billing Statements - background New students need to activate their e-bill profile A courtesy is sent when a new billing statement is generated E-Bills are produced by the end of each month as long as: There has been activity on the account during the billing period, or There is an outstanding balance Due dates are the 15 th of each month Paper bills are not available

6 Billing Statements - terminology e-bills: are CARS billing statements accessed online e-checks: are electronic payments: Made from a checking or savings account Are the preferred payment method to pay the CARS bill

11 Parents (Other Payers) Students may allow a trusted third-party to: View e-bills Pay with e-check Examples of Other Payers : Parent Spouse Guardian Etc.

12 Parents (Inviting Other Payers) Step 1: From the My Profile tab, the student invites other payers to have access to the e-bill statement. Step 2: The Other Payer will be sent an with an Activation ID number.

13 Parents (Inviting Other Payers) cont d Step 3: To create their own access, the Other Payer needs: The Activation ID number The 8-digit UCB Student ID number (obtained from the student) Step 4: Other Payer navigates to Bear Facts

17 Deferred Payment Plan (DPP) Overview: DPP is applicable to registration fees only Five monthly installments - 20% each Non-refundable participation fee - $40.00/semester Self-enroll each semester by paying with an e-check Summer semester is not eligible for DPP 1 st DPP Payment is Due: Fall semester: August 15 th Spring semester: January 15 th Deadline to enroll: Fall semester: September 15 th Spring semester: February 15 th

18 Deferred Payment Plan (DPP) cont d The DPP amount is displayed in the Messages section of the billing statement To elect the DPP option Click [Pay Now] from e-bill Statement Summary section Select the DPP payment option and proceed with payment Future monthly billing statements will reflect the DPP: 2 nd 5 th installments amounts 2 nd 5 th installment due dates

20 Financial Aid Most aid is credited from the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office to the student s CARS account. Aid will pay the charges on CARS. Remaining credits will be refunded to the student. Financial Aid will begin posting awards to student accounts in August for the Fall 2015 semester. 21 How Aid Gets To CARS GRANTS LOANS SCHOLARSHIPS CHECK OR EFT

22 Credit Balances - Refunds CARS account credit balances are disbursed via: Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) A paper check Students authorize EFT at Allow 7 business days for activation Fast, safe, convenient and green! EFT is an electronic credit to the student s bank account EFT is not an electronic debit from the student s bank account EFT is not the same as an e-check

23 Credit Balances - Refunds A paper check will be printed and held for pick up at Cal Student Central (120 Sproul Hall) if: The student has not authorized EFT Registration is not complete for the term The CARS account is past due Checks not picked up within 2 weeks: Will be mailed to the local address listed on Bear Facts Keep your address updated on Bear Facts to avoid delay
