8 Security in action Case Study: A high quality solution for a high quality store The need: Harvey Nichols, the internationally renowned luxury lifestyle store, required a bespoke security system to protect its high-value merchandise, staff and buildings in its Dundrum store in Ireland. As a business that sells such exclusive, high-value merchandise, the company required a comprehensive CCTV management solution that would protect its property, personnel and premises and ultimately reduce shrinkage. With three floors filled with top names in fashion and beauty, plus its famous food market and deluxe restaurant, Harvey Nichols Dublin is the centrepiece of the Dundrum retail centre. Loss prevention is a high priority for the company, as well as protecting the store s employees and buildings. The solution: The company chose a Honeywell system proposed by Blue Rock Security Solutions. A 32-camera system was installed, using Honeywell Orbiter microspheres. The system was connected via a MaxCom 32/8 matrix with images that are recorded and stored on two HRHD16 Digital Video Recorders. The benefits: Harvey Nichols now has a state-of-the-art security system that ensures the safety of its stock, personnel and premises. Powerful cameras, also connected to panic alarm buttons for employees, provide high quality images 24 hours a day. The Honeywell system means that both staff and customers feel safer, criminals are deterred and the in-store security team has effective security equipment with which to monitor the behaviour of its customers. 9 Case Study: Integrated security drives efficiencies across multiple department store premises The need: When leading retailer John Lewis relocated its department store premises to the new Liverpool One shopping centre, it required a new security system to protect staff and customers, to reduce shrinkage and wastage and to comply with health and safety regulations. The company required a networked intruder and access control security solution with web access that could potentially be rolled out across other stores in the UK. The solution: In collaboration with Dowling Blunt and Orion Security Solutions, a Honeywell integrated solution comprising WIN-PAK access control and a Galaxy Dimension intruder alarm was selected and installed. The solution delivers a robust platform with wide functionality, controlled logically over a network which also allows the full-scale system management of single or multiple locations as well as future expansion. The benefits: Three John Lewis department stores across the UK are managed by the security system. They benefit from cashless vending for employees, which helps to reduce internal shrinkage and till theft; securely managed zones that use access control cards to manage alarm zones and access to restricted areas; and the accurate identification of incidents in the store. This last feature uses dynamic floor plans with a graphical user interface to view and pinpoint alarm events and access to controlled areas. It s been a great investment, as we are able to seamlessly expand the system in the existing sites or can add new sites without significant cost to the business.
