6 COMPANY Italian Culligan was born in 1960, as Italian Branch of Culligan International, one of the oldest and known society in the field of water treatment, founded in Chicago in At the beginning the main activity of Italian Culligan was the distribution, in national territory, of small household softeners imported from the U.S. (used, then especially to feed espresso machines). But soon the company improved its know-how and its scope, covering the whole range of possible treatments of water, developing original technologies for many applications and finally becoming an important manufacturing centre. At the bottom of Culligan philosophy, in fact, there is always the idea that only a comprehensive approach to water problems, from the source to its return back to nature, can lead to intelligent and farsighted solutions for the exploitation of this vital resource. 4

7 Water industry The sectors where a specific conditioning of process water is of primary importance are food, textile, electronic and chemical industries. An advanced treatment of process water, in most of the industrial companies, is not only a general improvement of the conditions of production but a real mandatory requirement: without achieving certain water characteristics, many products fail to reach the required standards, and, in most of the cases, the quality of production is clearly unacceptable.
