3 Requirements The Microsoft.NET Framework version 3.5 needs to be installed on the target machine. XPR Enterprise Manager should be installed on the same server as the Pcounter administration software; in a Windows environment this will be the Pcounter data server. The server must have a valid Pcounter Pro license. Installation/Uninstallation Installation of this software will provide a 30 day evaluation period. To install, open the installation MSI file XPR Enterprise Manager x.x.x.x.msi and follow the wizard. To uninstall, go to the Windows Start menu and select All Programs then XPR Enterprise, XPR Enterprise Manager and finally XPR Enterprise Manager - Uninstall. This will take you through the removal process. Opening XPR Enterprise Manager From the Windows Start menu, select All Programs then XPR Enterprise, XPR Enterprise Manager and finally XPR Enterprise Manager. Alternatively click the XPR Enterprise Manager shortcut on your Windows Desktop. Overview XPR Enterprise Manager lies at the heart of the XPR Enterprise suite of products. Its purpose is to manage the XPR Enterprise database and various settings for client applications. It also facilitates communication between Pcounter and XPR Enterprise client applications. 4 Home Once the application is running the home page will be displayed. This page shows the applications product information. 5 Communication XPR Enterprise manager facilitates Communication between Pcounter and all XPR Enterprise client applications. Communication Settings Figure 3 Select the communication protocol/s to use: Named Pipes Used for application communication on the local machine. TCP Used for application communication on a local network. HTTP Used for application communication across the internet. At least one protocol must be selected, though all three can be used simultaneously. Choose the port numbers for TCP and/or HTTP communication. You may also need to configure Port Redirection on your router when using HTTP. When connecting XPR Enterprise client applications to the service, you will need to supply them with the name or IP address of the server and the port number used for the required protocol. 6 Remote Authentication The XPR Enterprise Manager handles the settings for remote authentication devices. These devices are either card readers or biometric scanners. The device type must be enabled if remote authentication requests are to be processed. Enabling the Self Registration option will allow users to assign a card to their Pcounter account. This option will be available if the system is using IP card readers for authentication. If the user presents an unknown card to the reader, they will be prompted to assign the unknown card to their account. If remote authentication is via card readers, a PIN number can also be requested by selecting PIN required. 7 Device A device is either a Printer or MFP. To add a device, click the Add Device option from the Actions menu. 8 Device Remote Authentication If the device has a remote authentication device attached (e.g. card reader), select the type of device and enter its IP address. Device Remote Authentication Figure 8 Devices Once all of the device information has been entered, select Back to Devices from the navigation menu. The device will then be displayed in the grid as shown below. Devices Figure 9 Devices can also be edited or deleted by selecting the appropriate action. Licensing In order to run the XPR Enterprise Embedded applications, an active license is needed by each device. The number of device (client) licenses allowed is determined when you purchase a support license for the product. During your 30 day evaluation period you may license up to 500 devices. 9 Pcounter Choose the operating system of your Pcounter Data server. Select Pcounter Operating System Figure 11 You can manage certain Pcounter credentials and other settings by clicking the Configure button from the actions menu. Once started, you will not be able to change the configuration properties for the service until it is stopped. Click the Stop Service if you need to stop the service. 10 Status Log Clicking the Status Log from the open menu will open a text file containing information regarding events that XPR Enterprise Manager and the service have encountered. Data such as when the service started and stopped, and any exceptions that may have occurred, are recorded here. Open Status Log Figure 14 This file can give you an idea of the status of the service and is useful for troubleshooting if anything does not work correctly. Close the log file after you have viewed it, so that you are always looking at the most updated version of the log when you next open it. This log file should not be deleted.
