2 Business Needs Client wanted to provide facilities for secure data center to their customers for backup and restore of large size data as and when needed. The need was to develop solution that would help users to restore a backup file from a server using Internet or set a schedule to upload a backup file on the server. This should provide a quick, easy and a reliable way to restore / upload backup files via software. It should also provide a secure method (via SSL or SSH/SFTP) to restore / upload files to and from the server. Gateway analyzed the requirements and provided functional Proof of Concept (PoC) for the backup solution. Gateway Solution Gateway developed a desktop solution based on MS.Net framework working on Windows and Ubuntu (Linux) operating systems. The software is easy to use with many advanced options such as full / incremental backups, strong file encryption and notification. The software has rich graphical user interface, requires no prior knowledge of data backup, and is a comprehensive data protection solution for all windows file systems. Feature at Glance BENEFITS Built in Scheduler to automate the data backup process (frequency of automatically creating backups daily, weekly, monthly, and so on) using storage media for backups such as disk remote FTP servers (remote/on-line backup) Two different modes of backing up Full (in which all data / files are backed up afresh during the rerun of a particular Backup Task) and Incremental (in which only modified files are backed up during the rerun of a particular Backup Task). Strong File Encryption (secure backups). Facility to create and save unique Backup in which specific sets of files can be grouped together and get backed up periodically, as per the Scheduler. Confirmation s after backup jobs, pre/post backup task programs (to automatically run any program before and/or after a backup process) We have implemented the LDAP user authentication for Linux server. The distributed approach was used to develop the Backup- Solution. The web service with its methods for authentication and configuration update forms the authentication section of the application and the client once authenticated is provided alternate credential for automated login to SFTP server.
