This challenge involves key technologies which we carry out in-house. In oil & gas the aim is to collect natural resources while generating profi t. One basic condition for effi cient operations is to comply with emissions regulations. We care for the technology you need. In order to achieve advanced emissions reductions, we have invested our comprehensive expertise in core technologies: fuel injection, turbocharging, cooled exhaust gas recirculation, electronic engine controls for optimizing engine processes and preventing soot formation, as well as external optimization. Advanced emissions regulations like EU Stage IV/EPA Tier 4 final demand further signifi cant reduction in the pollutants emitted. Our engines and systems meet current legislative requirements with proven technologies. We care for the optimal solution for the special demands of each application and power range by choosing the ideal technology. Aftertreatment technology below 560kW (750bhp) Beside our emissions reduction technologies like EGR, common-rail-fuelinjection and charge-air-cooling our engines below 560kW (750bhp) are equipped with SCR aftertreatment technology. A win-win situation for your earnings and the en vironment. No aftertreatment above 560kw (750bhp) Our engines above 560 kw (750bhp) don t use any exhaust aftertreatment technology. Instead our latest engines are equipped with state of the art EGR technology combined with our core technologies. In combination those technologies enanble engine compliance with the most stringent emission regulations such as EPA Tier 4 fi nal. That means optimum engine characteristics and cost-effi cient operation while meeting emissions standards. Depending on the engine operating point, a certain quantity of exhaust gas is conveyed to the EGR cooler. As it passes through the cooler, the hot exhaust gas is cooled and then mixed with charge air. Mixing the exhaust gas with charge air results in a signifi cant reduction in combustion temperature by comparison with engines that are not using EGR. In return, much lower raw emissions levels of nitrogen oxide are generated inside the engine. The highly effi cient EGR combustion process developed by MTU ensures compliance with EPA Tier 4 fi nal emissions legislation without the need for aftertreatment. All over the world, mobile rigs depend on MTU Series 60 engines to get the job done under tough conditions and strict deadlines. To meet new EPA 2010 standards, MTU offers a new solution the on-highway certified Series This cutting-edge engine is the product of over four years of development and 5.6 million miles of on-highway testing. As the heart of the new MTU Mobile Rig Power Module, the Series 1300 offers the same legendary high standards of reliability and durability as the Series 60, with improved emissions technology and load performance. Time is Money To maximize revenue, mobile rigs must get to the worksite, service the well and move on to the next job as quickly as possible. Any work stoppage or missed deadline has serious cost implications. Reliable power is critical. The Series 1300 has been engineered to meet the high demands and fast trip times required for mobile well servicing equipment. Running at 1,800 rpm, the six-cylinder engine delivers up to 350 kw (470 hp). A mobile rig engine must have the power and responsiveness to sense a stuck pipe, and to provide additional torque to remove it. To ensure smooth operation, the Series 1300 engine features a fast response to changing load requirements delivering 90% peak torque in 1.5 seconds, 65% faster than the Series 60. At 1,100 rpm, it produces 1,250-1,650 lb.-ft. of torque. And it achieves peak torque at 1,240 rpm, with more than 90% peak torque available at 1,000 rpm. Engineered with new turbocharging technology and electronics, the Series 1300 s quick load pickup response time creates efficiency and maximizes uptime. The wastegated asymmetrical turbocharger with fixed geometry design has fewer moving parts (compared with VGT design) for proven performance. Engineered for Life Fast load pickup response times are just one way the Series 1300 lowers cost of ownership. Backed by a legacy of superior engineering, the Series 1300 offers the longest scheduled maintenance intervals in its class, along with extended time between overhauls (1.2 million mile B50). The three-stage integrated Jacobs engine brake offers quiet engine braking and provides superior braking horsepower for extended brake life. Sturdy rear gear train and ribbed cast iron block minimize noise vibration harshness. And a fully integrated DDEC10 electronic fuel injection and control system protects the engine from damage due to extreme operating conditions. A smart, fuel-efficient design helps you make the most of every gallon. The Series 1300 provides up to five percent better fuel economy, compared to the Series 1300 EPA 2007 engine with comparable engine ratings and load weights. Amplified Common Rail System optimizes each injection event to minimize fuel consumption and allows for easy injector replacement. And to get you back on the job quickly and lower costs, the engine is designed for easy serviceability. Oil, coolant and fuel filters are positioned above the frame rails for easier, faster and cleaner changes. And the crankcase breather features a maintenance-free design. A Cleaner Approach Certified for on-highway (EPA GHG14) standards and designed to exceed Tier 4i off-highway standards, the Series 1300 features proven emissions technology. The Series 1300 engine was a clean-sheet design. Optimal performance, reliability and fuel economy were enhanced through MTU s vast engineering experience and expertise in market-tested technologies like SCR (selective catalytic reduction) with DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) and proven technologies like EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) with DPF (diesel particulate filter). Everything in One Package The MTU Mobile Power Module is a turnkey solution, fully assembled for ease of installation. Everything is designed to work together, which prolongs preventive maintenance and overhaul intervals. The available 1-Box emissions package is fully integrated as one solution, unlike other engine manufacturers. And each module can be customized to your exact requirements. VII Main ECU Sensors SBX Actuators Series 4000 P03 Backup Additionald components ECU in comparison to the standard scope of supply Sensors EMU Sensors The NFPA-20 standard requires redundant engine controllers on fi repump drive systems in order to prevent interruptions in the fi re-pump water jet during an emergency. MTU is the fi rst manufacturer in the world to offer redundant controllers for engines with common rail injection. In accordance with this standard, the second controller must be installed on the engine and permanently wired. In the event of a fault on the fi rst controller, it must take over the engine control automatically without interrupting the water jet. This measure increases the availability of your fi re pumps and consequently the entire system. The redundant controllers developed by MTU can be used in direct, hydraulic, and diesel-electric drive systems. To redundantly record all engine data required for controlling, a second sensor set is installed on the engine. The ECU7 engine control unit is used as a main and backup controller. Because the injectors and high-pressure fuel control block are not installed redundantly, triggering of these actuators must be switchable between the two controllers: and so the new SBX1 switch box forms the heart of this system. Switching The MTU engine controller offers the option of manual switching, whereby the controller active at any given moment is displayed optically (via LED). The switching process is designed to guarantee the greatest possible redundancy of the system. Optimal use is made of the ECU7 plugs for logic switching and for supplying the new unit. This results in extremely simple wiring. If switching is necessary, drops in speed and excessively high rail pressure must be prevented. The MTU system guarantees that these demands are met for all types of applications (direct, diesel-electric, or diesel-hydraulic pump drive), all engine cylinder variants (12V, 16V, or 20V), and for every engine base speed (1,500 rpm for 4000 P63 or 1,800 rpm for 4000 P83).
