10 COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS Select colleges to which you want to apply. You can apply to as many colleges as you wish; it is suggested that you apply to no more than 5 colleges. You may be admitted to more than one college. You will have to make a final decision about where to attend by May 1, 2016.

11 I ve Chosen My College, Now What? Apply! Apply online through each college s website or do the Common Application if the college is a member school.

12 COMMON APPLICATION Good for over 500 schools nationwide Usually due January 1, 2016 Submit and track everything on-line Pay application fee for each school Last day for counselor invitation is December 1, Invitations received after that time may not be processed by the Jan. 1 deadline.

13 Recommendations Students using the Common App will have a required school section that is completed by the counselor. This section reports grades, class ranking, discipline, and requires a letter of recommendation. All students using the Common App or needing a letter of recommendation from their counselor are REQUIRED to the counselor a resume and have a profile completed. The Common App WILL NOT be completed without this information. Please allow at least two weeks for completion.

14 College Application Process Complete BOTH college and scholarship applications- on-line by the DEADLINE!!! As a general rule, the deadline for college applications is November 1, 2015 (a Sunday this year), but some colleges have deadlines that are earlier; others later. Please make sure you know what your application deadline is. *Fee waivers are available for students receiving free/reduced lunch. me if you need one.

15 APPLICATION TERMS EARLY ACTION- Take this opportunity for all colleges you are seriously considering OCTOBER/NOVEMBER/DECEMBER- know by January 1, 2016 ROLLING ADMISSION- Application reviewed when received- Decisions made throughout the cycle. REGULAR DECISION- early January deadlineknow by APRIL EARLY DECISION- Nov. 1-Once accepted, you must withdraw all other college applications. YOU ARE COMMITTED TO THIS COLLEGE FOR

16 CSS Profile Some select universities require the CSS Profile with their applications. This profile will determine need-based aid at the time of admission. Available to be filled out after Oct. 1 and is to be filled out prior to early admission deadlines. You and your parents tax forms are needed to complete this.

17 COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS Admission score requirement- 21 for Kansas Regents schools (22 on the Math portion or 4 years of high school math required); varies with private and out of state schools Scholarship score requirement- Check individual websites for Automatic Academic Awards based on GPA/Test scores The closer to you get, the better money options you have $$$$$$$$$$$

19 TRANSCRIPTS Classes and grades 9-12 is an official high school transcript Weighted and unweighted GPA Class rank- 460 in your senior class ACT/SAT scores 6 semester transcript is what you have now 7 semester transcript available in January 8 semester transcript will be your final one available in June after graduation.

20 TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS REQUEST YOUR TRANSCRIPTS ELECTRONICALLY THROUGH immediately after completing your college application on-line. (KU and Pitt State are exceptions; they do not require a transcript until AFTER the Senior year)

21 Student Work Colleges and scholarship organizations are increasingly finding out that parents are doing their student s college and scholarship applications. This is unethical and can and does result in admissions and scholarships being canceled for students. ONW cannot accept any scholarship applications if it is suspected not to be the student s work. Bottom line: It s okay for parents to encourage and guide, not to do!

23 Begin Your Scholarship Search Now! Check EdModo constantly or have an alert set up to go to your phone. Organize your scholarships by deadline date. Write a good general scholarship essay that can be easily revised to fit many scholarships. Apply, apply, apply! You MUST do your own scholarship applications. Remember, parents guide; they don t do the work.

24 Other Things to Do Now Young men at least 17 years, 3 months of age need to register with Selective Service at Without registering, you will be unable to receive financial aid.

25 Where to Report any Earned Scholarships? Report any scholarship, accepting or not This is required for participation in the Senior Signing Ceremony in April Goal: The Class of 2016 will win the most scholarship dollars in the history of ONW! The record: 14.3 million dollars (Class of 2014)
