Drive Costs Down Increase IT Efficiency Enable Business Agility Why is virtualization such a big deal? A lot of people understand, and they think it's about saving money, it's about saving power, it's about green IT, it's about space, and that's certainly true. But in our perspective, it's much, much bigger than that, and people are just now beginning to understand that. We think that there's a major transformation taking place in IT. This major transformation that's been taking place for years is starting to accelerate, and we believe that virtualization is a major enabler and catalyst of that transition that's taking place Tom Bittman, Gartner VP and Chief of Research of Infrastructure and Operations, at Microsoft s Virtualization Launch Event The Server Virtualization market is rapidly growing % of x86 Workloads Virtualized WW Spending on Server Virtualization Software ($B) with new (and different) customers driving this growth Early majority buyers are mid market companies with smaller staff and smaller budgets Early majority buyer transactions on average will be smaller than early adopters This next wave in adoption is what IDC terms Virtualization 2.0, and it will be supported not just by the Global 2000 but also by the Global 200,000. IDC, Aug 2008 Cost stands out as the biggest inhibitor to companies virtualizing these remaining systems IDC, Aug 2008 In this segment Microsoft has an advantage Microsoft will gain share because Microsoft costs significantly less than VMware and is now at technical parity with VMware Microsoft is a familiar vendor High customer satisfaction with existing applications - Office, Exchange, etc Microsoft Server Virt. Market Share (%) A Virtualization Practice is better than a VMware Practice Be technology agnostic/act as a trusted advisor Enables access to follow-on projects (e.g. mgmt, desktop virt and VDI, etc) The best ROI on an offering that covers all scenarios VMware expansion is taking away business from partners Source: Gartner, IDC, 2009, 2010 PRESENTATION. 7

Market Size Server Virtualization on the Technology Adoption Lifecycle The Last Phase Early Adopters Large Enterprises Price insensitive Low volume, large size The Next Phase Early Majority through Mainstream Mid-Market (smaller size, higher volume) Cost/Price sensitive Affordable Early Adopter: 13.3% 1 Today Early Majority: 49.9% Late Adopter: 32.1% Laggard: 4.9% Time This next wave in adoption is what IDC terms Virtualization 2.0, and it will be supported not just by the Global 2000 but also by the Global 200,000. IDC, Aug 2008 To date, roughly 5% of the installed base of servers has been virtualized with over 25 million servers that could potentially be virtualized as they are upgraded and refreshed. IDC, Aug : October 2009 IDC Server Virtualization Survey It s the Platform you know Data center to desktop End-to-End Management Best TCO/ROI Part of Windows Server 2008 Use Existing Tools & Skills Full range of products & solutions Large partner eco-system Physical and Virtual & Cross-hypervisor Interoperability Management Approx 1/3 the price of VMware Lower ongoing costs Simplified Licensing 16 PRESENTATION. 8

Licensing Microsoft Application Server Products General Rules Standard Edition Per-Proc Enterprise Edition Per-Proc 49 Application Server Core Concept: Most Microsoft application server products have a one-to-one relationship between a license and a running instance. A select few (e.g. MS- SQL Server) allow you to run a group of instances but only in the same OSE. Exceptions: 50 PRESENTATION. 25

Standard Edition (excluding MS-SQL Server 2012 which can be licensed per-core) Terms and Conditions Per-Processor 51 Standard Edition (excluding MS-SQL Server 2012 which can be licensed per-core) Terms and Conditions Per-Processor 52 PRESENTATION. 26

Enterprise Edition Per-Processor (excluding MS-SQL Server 2008 R2, which require SQL Datacenter licenses for equivalent entitlements, and MS-SQL Server 2012, which is licensed per-core) Terms and Conditions 53 In a nutshell: How to License Microsoft Server Products in Virtual Environments 54 PRESENTATION. 27

For Microsoft Server Products in Virtualized Environments LICENSING MODEL NOTES EXAMPLES Per instance with standard license entitlements Per instance with special license entitlements Each Server License provides the right to run only one instance of the server software regardless of whether in a POSE, VOSE, or on a stand-alone machine. In the Server/CAL licensing model, each Virtual Machine (VM) gets licensed as if it were a separate physical server (absent any one-off license entitlement for failover, cold server disaster recovery under Software Assurance, etc.). This is the server virtualization licensing model for most Microsoft Application Server products (that are not licensed per-processor). Windows Server: Take advantage of VM O/S entitlements based on the edition of Windows Server O/S assigned to the host machine (POSE). MS-SQL Server 2008 R2 Datacenter Edition / SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition or earlier versions (Server/CAL Mode): Unlimited deployments in POSE and VOSE. SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise introduced new limits which allow 4 virtual machines per license. This means, if a customer needs to run 8 virtual machines in a Server/CAL licensing mode, they need 2 SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise licenses. No license for unlimited virtualization with SQL Server 2008 R2 EE Server + CAL exists other than as a temporary SA right. Microsoft Exchange ConfigMgr (SCCM) SQL Server Standard (Server/CAL mode) Windows Server SQL Server Enterprise (EE) and Datacenter Edition (in Server/CAL mode) 55 For Microsoft Server Products in Virtualized Environments LICENSING MODEL NOTES EXAMPLES Per-Processor ( Per-Proc ) NOTE: The below guidelines apply to all server products licensed in a per-processor mode except System Center 2012, which was launched in April 2012, MS-SQL Server versions including and predating 2008 R2, and Windows Server Datacenter Edition. The number of processor licenses depends not only on the edition in use but also how resources are allocated and configured (i.e. number of virtual processors in use for VOSEs and cores/threads on physical processors) Standard Edition Per-Processor: For VOSE ( Processors Used ): License by the number of virtual processors in relation to cores or threads per physical processor. For POSE ( Processors Available ): License by the number of physical processors NOTE: for Server products deployed in Standard Edition, the total processor count to be licensed can in fact exceed the total physical processors Enterprise Edition Per-Processor: License by the number of physical processors unless hardware partitioning is in effect. Commerce Server 2009 (All Editions) BizTalk Server 2006 R2/2009/2010 (not v2013) Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010 (All Editions) 56 PRESENTATION. 28

For Microsoft Server Products in Virtualized Environments LICENSING MODEL Per-Processor ( Per-Proc ) Covering This Exception Windows Server 2012 NOTES Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition Per-Processor: Standard edition license entitles you to run up to two VMs on up to two processors Windows Server 2012 Standard edition will entitle you to run one instance in the physical OSE and two instances in the virtual OSE with each license If all of the allowed instances are running then the instance in the physical can only be used to manage the virtual instances. For Standard edition you can add more virtual instances by assigning additional licenses to the server (two incremental virtual instances are added per license, which is equivalent to one VOSE per physical processor, though licenses are sold in two-processor packs). Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Edition Per-Processor: Licensed by number of physical processors. Allows any edition of Windows Server to be installed on an unlimited number of Operating System Environments (OSEs), whether physical or virtual, on a particular machine. EXAMPLES Windows Server 2012 Examples: 57 For Microsoft Server Products in Virtualized Environments LICENSING MODEL NOTES NOTES Per-Processor ( Per-Proc ) Covering These Exceptions MS-SQL Server <= 2008 R2 (All Editions) Windows Server Datacenter Edition MS-SQL Server Standard Edition Per-Processor (or Workgroup/Small Business /Web Edition Per-Proc): For VOSE ( Processors Used ): License by the number of virtual processors in relation to cores or threads per physical processor. For POSE ( Processors Available ): License by the number of physical processors NOTE: for Server products deployed in Standard Edition, the total processor count to be licensed can in fact exceed the total physical processors MS-SQL Server Enterprise Edition Per-Processor: For MS-SQL Server 2008 and earlier versions, license the number of physical processors and run any number of instances in unlimited operating system environments for each Enterprise Per-Proc license. For MS-SQL Server 2008 R2, license the number of physical processors and run any number of instances in up to four operating systems environments for each Enterprise Per-Proc license assigned to the server. Windows and MS-SQL Server Datacenter Edition Per-Processor: Windows Server and MS-SQL Servers 2008 R2: License by the number of physical processors.; all physical processors must be licensed unless there is hardware partitioning. For Windows Server, Windows CALs are still required. NOTE: For MS-SQL Server, the number of processor licenses depends not only on the edition in use but also how resources are allocated and configured (i.e. number of virtual processors in use for VOSEs and cores/threads on physical processors) 58 PRESENTATION. 29

For Microsoft Server Products in Virtualized Environments LICENSING MODEL Per-Processor ( Per-Proc ) Covering This Exception System Center 2012 NOTES System Center 2012 R1/R2 Standard Edition Per-Processor: Licensed by number of physical processors regardless of whether product suite or components are installed in a physical or virtual operating system environment (OSE). Each license has an entitlement (i.e. coverage) for two physical processors. Each license allows you to install the suite or individual components on up to two Operating System Environments (OSEs) on that machine. The number of Server MLs required for each managed server is determined by either the number of physical processors in the server or number of OSEs being managed (whichever is greater). System Center 2012 R1/R2 Datacenter Edition Per-Processor: Licensed by number of physical processors. Each license has an entitlement (i.e. coverage) for two physical processors. Allows the suite or individual components to be installed on an unlimited number of Operating System Environments (OSEs), whether physical or virtual, on a particular machine. The number of Server MLs required for each managed server is determined by the number of physical processors in the server for Datacenter Edition EXAMPLES Modified Per-Proc licensing model introduced with System Center 2012 in April For Microsoft Server Products in Virtualized Environments LICENSING MODEL Per Core NOTES For MS-SQL Server 2012 Standard in Core licensing mode or Enterprise edition OR BizTalk Server 2013 (any edition), license EITHER individual VOSEs, which makes sense when the Virtual OSEs use just a fraction of the total processing power in the physical server; this can be done by buying a core license for each virtual core allocated to the virtual machine (minimum of 4 core licenses per VM, bought in packs of two) OR all processor cores on the server with Enterprise Edition core licenses with Software Assurance (SA) and deploy an unlimited number of VMs with MS-SQL Server. With the latter, SA is a requirement. To license a physical server, you must license all the cores in the server with a minimum of 4 core licenses required for each physical processor in the server. EXAMPLES MS-SQL Server 2012 Standard (Per-Core) and Enterprise BizTalk Server 2013 Enterprise, Standard and Branch Each External Connector assigned to a server allows any number of External Per Server Users to access any number of licensed instances of the server software on that server. You do not need a separate EC for each instance of the software, or for each OSE on that server. External Connectors 60 PRESENTATION. 30

Windows Server Standard Edition is most cost efficient for one to three VMs per server. Note that if you run three VMs, you'll need to buy three copies of Standard Edition. Windows Server Enterprise Edition is most cost efficient from four VMs on a server up to four VMs per processor. For example, if I have a dual processor box and want to run eight VMs, I could buy two copies of Enterprise edition. Windows Server Datacenter Edition is most cost efficient for more than four VMs per processor, because one can run an unlimited number of VMs per processor by licensing each physical processor. While Windows Datacenter is more expensive than Enterprise when running four VMs per processor, one can scale and support future growth. Ideally, one should consider future server expansion, the degree of server clustering, and/or the movement of VMs across the virtual server farm using products like Microsoft s Live Migration before deciding between Windows Datacenter and Enterprise. Remember that you have to license all processors in the server plus add Windows CALs (as needed) PRESENTATION. 31

PRESENTATION. 32

Licensing a Portion of the Physical Processors If you choose not to license all of the physical processors, you will need to know the number of virtual processors supporting each virtual OSE and the number of cores per physical processor/socket. Typically, each virtual processor is the equivalent of one core: # of cores (hyper-threading off) /or # threads (if hyperthreading on) per physical processor PRESENTATION. 33
