The foundational premise of a doctoral study and, consequently, of the Doctoral Programme in Computer Sciences, is the production of new knowledge through innovative and ground-breaking research. Underlying this premise, are the following objectives: a) To educate students in the spheres of competence within Computer Sciences, producing theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of computing, generating and multiplying scientific research, attuned to the society and to the national and international academic communities; b) To provide doctoral students the opportunity to improve or to obtain competencies and expertise adjacent to an assortment of dimensions on Informatics, as well as the competencies to develop high level research and to stimulate scientific research; c) To contribute for a propinquity between Higher Education, Science and Innovation. - Knowledge of assorted academic areas on the computer sciences scope, as well as aptitude to produce knowledge by conducting original research in a fundamental or applied perspective. -Literary studies specialists Each Course Unit has its own assessment methods, which include formal examinations, but also participation in classes, lectures, seminars, projects, tutorials, practical work, fieldwork, self-study or other assessment tools. Students are required to successfully complete all assessment activities with a minimum grade of 9.5 (on a scale of 1-20) in order to finalize the course units and obtain the corresponding ECTS Credits. The main intent of this doctoral programme in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is the reinforcement of the aptitude for scientific production, conducting original and innovative academic research, in a fundamental and applied perspective, and aims to prepare candidates with competences for the development, application and communication of original and independent research. (a) besides mastering the relevant scientific theories, the student acquires knowledge and skills regarding the ECE methods used in his/ her particular area of work; (b) experience regarding laboratory work and scientific research teamwork in ECE; (c) Capacity for scientific and/ or technological production. -electronics and computer engineering specialists. This programme intends to endow students with a systemic approach on chief conceptuality of Physics, enabling them to envisage, project, implement and adapt significant processes on investigation, abiding academic integrity within multipart situations.
