ENGINEERING IIT Engineer Entrepreneur Derived from Ingenium (latin): Derived from Entreprendre (french): Innate character, talent or nature to undertake Program Overview Curriculum & Concentrations Contact Information Picture Credit: Terri Boake, University of Waterloo
A Degree at the Intersection of Invention and Innovation that develops professionals to work both sides of the industry market interface to move inventions through the design innovation cycle. To create maximum value for your company or your own enterprise as an engineer entrepreneur. Engineering management at IIT continues the tradition of discipline strong education. You take many of the same courses as other engineers in a specific engineering discipline of your choice to ensure your knowledge is strong enough to significantly contribute to teams working important engineering issues. A professionally oriented degree that builds the traits expected of an IIT graduate: leadership, team builder, experienced communication skills across disciplines, sees opportunity in problems and a grounding in professional ethics. An IIT education provides an unique commitment to society via diversity of thought and social awareness, development of personal values and vision and a desire to contribute to the quality of life through technology and out of the box thinking. A degree that builds the innate character, talent or nature to undertake the important issues of today and tomorrow. Program Overview Curriculum & Concentrations Contact Information
A Degree at the Intersection of Invention and Innovation Theory is put into practice through IIT s Interprofessional Research Office projects known as IPROs. You will perform in two IPROs that focus on team based problem solving of real world issues and create innovative solutions...then you build an innovation plan; a business plan to take the idea to the market and create value. We call them entrepreneurial IPROs or ENPROs. Want more? Need a flexible degree? There is room in this degree (15 credit hours) for your mind to expand and experience any discipline you need to meet your life goals. After all how many careers will you have? Why not build a knowledge base now! Maybe you have a desire to get a professional master s degree? Most of the engineering concentrations at IIT are part of a 4+1 program. With an additional year of fulltime study after the bachelors you could get your master s degree! Program Overview Curriculum & Concentrations Contact Information
A Degree at the Intersection of Invention and Innovation We have not forgotten the promise of an education not just a better job but the chance to be your own boss! Did you know that Marvin Cameras (an IIT grad of ) invented an innovative recording head for tape recorder while he was a junior at IIT? Got any good ideas? This is where you start! Jules F Knapp Entrepreneurship Center The mission of the IIT Knapp Entrepreneurship Center is to be Chicago s Leading Professional Support Services Center for IIT related entrepreneurs by providing effective, affordable, and expert resources to help create and grow successful commercial ventures. IIT KEC is a collaborative community of supporters of entrepreneurial ventures. Go to to find our more! Program Overview Curriculum & Concentrations Contact Information
A Degree at the Intersection of Invention and Innovation How do we support your journey to be an engineer entrepreneur? How about the Chicago Innovation Chase? How about a first prize of $2500? See what happen in IIT won! How about the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Academy (IEA) IDEA Challenge? Would a $25,000 grand prize and competing against other schools peak your interest? Check it out at The IEA is the student faculty group that supports moving ideas from sketches to prototype to market. Through the IEA you will hear talks by major companies in the Chicago area on the frontier of innovation and invention. You will work with entrepreneurs in training from our diverse student body to learn not only the US market but the world market...and that is where value must be created. Total Credit Hours Program Overview Curriculum & Concentrations Contact Information
Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management The specific science and mathematics requirements are identical to normal engineering programs at IIT. Students select there own social science and humanities electives. The specific engineering core is set by each department. Each core includes a minimum of 2 credit hours of introduction to the profession for each discipline. Technical electives must be 300-level or higher and are selected by the student with help from the departmental advisor for their selected discipline. Free electives are available to the student and must be 300-level or higher in any discipline as long as pre-requisites have been met for specific courses. This is a 4+1 degree. Most departments core engineering concentration allows a student to complete a professional masters with an additional year of fulltime study beyond the four-year bachelors program. This program begins Fall 2010 and is not ABET accredited. Accreditation is being pursued in the next few years. Program Overview Curriculum & Concentrations Contact Information
