Admission Requirement - Bachelor s or Master s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, computer engineering or related discipline - Knowledge of high-level programming languages, data structures, real-time programming, computer organization, formal languages, operating systems and computer system design. - Minimum GPA of. - Minimum GRE score of1150. GRE requirement is waived for WSU-CECS with a degree in computer science or computer engineering and a minimum GPA of.6. - Minimum TOEFL score of (electronic) or 550 (written) - Bachelor s or Master s in computer science, computer engineering or another science or engineering field - Knowledge of computer organization, operating systems, data structures and either digital design or formal languages - Minimum GPA of if admitted with a Bachelor s degree or a minimum GPA of. if admitted with a Master s degree. - GRE General Test scores are required but are waived for WSU-CECS graduates with a minimum GPA of. at the Bachelor s level or a minimum GPA of.5 at the Master s level. A maximum of 12 hours or thesis (CS 799/CEG 799) taken at WSU may be included. - Minimum 12 hours of graduate coursework outside the of Computer Science and Engineering - Completion of the CS core courses (CEG 70, CS 701, CS 78, CS 70) or CEG core courses (CEG 70, CEG 720, CEG 702, CEG 770). - Completion of the Qualifying Examination by passing a written examination covering material from the core course areas, by achieving a minimum.75 GPA in the core courses, by achieving a minimum.5 GPA in the core courses and a minimum.75 GPA in the approved program of study or by achieving a minimum.5 GPA in the approved program of study and having a paper accepted in a journal or competitive conference. A student who fails to pass the Qualifying Examination on the first attempt may repeat the core area examinations or core courses one time at the next available offering. - Minimum 6 hours of residency research (CS/CEG 897) - Completion of Candidacy Examination (CS/CEG 89) with a passing grade. - Completion of Dissertation Defense (CS 896/896) with a passing grade. - Minimum of 1 journal paper accepted or 1 paper published in a highly selective conference - Completion of all degree requirements in 10 years If admitted without a graduate degree: Graduate credit hours in CS/CEG must satisfy the following minimums: 90 total, 60 at 7000/8000 level, and 6 in formal coursework - If admitted with a graduate degree: Graduate credit hours in CS/CEG must satisfy the following minimums: 60 total, 0 at 7000/8000 level, and 18 in formal coursework - Completion of core requirements of one of the disciplines: * CS: one course each from Theory Area (CS 7200, CS 7220), Software Area (CS 7100, CS 710), and Systems and Applications Area (CS 7700, CEG 770) * CEG: one course each from Architecture Area (CEG 750, CEG 750), Hardware Area (CEG 760, CEG 700), and Systems and Applications Area (CS 7700, CEG 770) - Completion of the core coursework with A s in two areas and at least a B in the third satisfies the qualifying requirement. Students may repeat the final examination in each core course once to satisfy this requirement - Minimum 18 hours of residency research after passing the qualifying exam and before attempting the candidacy exam - Completion of candidacy examination with satisfactory grade. - Minimum 12 hours of dissertation research after passing the candidacy examination and before attempting the dissertation defense - Submission of an approved dissertation. - Minimum of 1 journal paper or 2 conference papers accepted for publication by the dissertation committee - GPA or higher in CS/CEG courses - Completion of all degree requirements in 10 years Notes: Page 6 of 2
