NAU employees and staff expressed their appreciation for all the dedication and leadership Dr. Gallentine has provided during his time at NAU. I am thankful to have had the pleasure and honor of working with Jerry during my tenure at NAU. His dedication to our students and to higher education overall has proved invaluable. He has been instrumental to the growth and development of National American University, and for over 20 years, Jerry has guided NAU with his long-term vision and leadership. He has played an integral role in the university s increased recognition, continued improvement in academic quality and support, and significant geographic and enrollment growth. Because of his contributions, the company is in a stronger position to execute on its strategic initiatives and to overcome the various challenges facing the industry, said Ronald L. Shape, Ed.D., Chief Executive Officer. accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission, the implementation of online education programs and the overall expansion of academic programs and services over the past 20 years. Everyone at NAU is grateful for Jerry s service. We wish him all the best in his retirement and look forward to his continued leadership at the board level, said Shape. 2 NAU NEWS CAMPUS NEWS NAU S ROUECHE GRADUATE SCHOOL LAUNCHES EXECUTIVE MBA PROGRAM On September 1, 2015, the National American University Roueche Graduate Center in Austin, Texas launched an Executive MBA program for managers who want to advance in their career to a higher leadership position. In addition, according to the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), managers who earn an Executive MBA, on average, double their salary within a short period of time after earning the degree. ROCHESTER HOSTS MEDICAL ASSISTING OPEN HOUSE NAU-Rochester had a successful open house for the Medical Assisting Program. The event included a tour of the campus, participation from Rochester s MA students, a special ribbon cutting from the Chamber, networking and an interview with a local TV news station. EMILY ROBERTS NAMED SYSTEM CULTURE CLUB EMPLOYEE OF THE QUARTER At NAU-Bellevue, Emily completes the DOFI (Director of First Impressions) position with a smile, always asking, Are you ready to go to school? to whoever enters the door, whether or not they are students. She motivates and encourages students to study and helps them with questions and explanations of assignments. As the head of the campus Culture Club she is idea driven, spearheads projects, and sponsors the M&Ms, the medical student s organization. Emily also created a power point of each screen for a Desire2Learn (D2L) class to assist new and continuing students in knowing how to navigate the website. Congratulations Emily! SPECIAL GRADUATION MOMENT AT NAU- KANSAS CITY Graduation was extra special for recent graduate Norma DeLeon (Business Administration, 2015, Kansas City). Moments after crossing the stage and receiving her diploma she was surprised by her son, Marine Corporal Christian DeLeon, home from duty, giving Ms. DeLeon two reasons to celebrate! In 2013, he received the 13th Distinguished Service Alumni Award in recognition of a successful accounting career as a partner at East, Vander Woude, Grant & Co., and his high degree of community service. Mr. Vander Woude was very active in Sioux Falls, SD civic, service and community groups, as well as his church. He also volunteered his leadership and skill to NAU. We are grateful for the years of service Mr. Vander Woude provided, and offer our sympathy to his wife, Susan, and their three children. NAU AWARDS RESEARCH PAPER SCHOLARSHIPS National American University offers a Research Paper Scholarship to recognize students who demonstrate excellence in research and writing a paper as a result of research. The scholarship is applied toward the student s tuition. The new process and expanded awards this year allowed more students to be recognized for their research excellence. There was also more award dollars available to the awardees than in the past. The top paper award was worth $2,000, the Meritorious papers were awarded $1,000 each and the Honorable Mention awardees received a $500 tuition scholarship each. Congratulations also go the home campus faculty and staff for the role they play in supporting their students to excel! The passion for education and student success was palpable. I left the conference feeling honored to serve our students and to be a part of their educational experience. 5 IN THE SPOTLIGHT THE I was in the Navy and I had been taking college courses over a seven-year period before I enrolled at NAU. I was tired of not having a degree and I made that my number one priority at NAU. I am now a Research Engineer/Scientist Associate for the University of Texas J.J. Pickle Applied Research Laboratory.
