1 Yvonne Acosta, RN, MSN, JD MS. Acosta attained her BSN (1983) and MSN (1988) from University of Texas at El Paso. Her Juris Doctor (JD) was attained in 1995 from St. Mary s University School of Law, San Antonio, Texas Ms. Acosta began her nursing career in pediatrics and maternal child health. After completing her law degree, she worked as an attorney in the public and private sector. She has conducted numerous presentations pertaining to legal issues for nurses and other allied health professionals. During her tenure at University of Texas at El Paso Ms. Acosta has served as a clinical instructor and clinical associate professor. As professor, she s taught graduate level courses in Health Law, Policy and Ethics. Ms. Acosta has been the recipient of many awards and honors and is associated with several professional and community organizations. Her current professional role is that of Executive Nursing Officer, University of Texas at El Paso. Jeff R. Temple, PhD Dr. Temple is an associate professor at University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. He serves as Director of Behavioral Health and Research, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition to women s health research, Dr. Temple has co-conducted/published data on major ongoing studies pertaining to adolescent/teen behavior (e.g., dating violence, alcohol and substance use). Dr. Temple attained his BA (1998) from University of Texas at San Antonio; his MA (2004) and PhD (2006) from University of North Texas.
2 Anil T. Mangla, MS, PhD, MPH, FRIPH Dr. Mangla currently serves as Assistant Director of Health, Communicable Disease Division for the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District. His role includes overseeing public health programs, health care planning, surveillance systems, and public health improvement. Prior to relocating to San Antonio, Dr. Mangla served in a similar capacity in Georgia. Additionally, he was an adjunct professor at University of Georgia and Mercer University, School of Medicine. Dr. Mangla attained his MS in Chemistry from University of Texas at El Paso (1991); PhD from Texas Tech University (1998) and his MPH in epidemiology from University of Minnesota (2004). Susan C. Mengden, PhD, MA, MBA, BA, CEDS Dr. Mengden is a licensed psychologist who has specialized in the treatment of eating disorders since She is Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of the Eating Disorders Center at San Antonio (EDCASA). While attaining her Masters and PhD at Boston College, Dr. Mengden began six years of education, experience and training in the Eating Disorder s Program at Westwood Lodge Psychiatric Hospital. Upon returning to Texas, Dr. Mengden became the Director and Founder of the Eating Disorder Program at Brooke Army Medical Center. In 2001 she transitioned to private practice where she ran an outpatient treatment team, coordinated eating disorder education for area clinicians and supervised post-doctoral psychology residents at University of Texas at San Antonio. She was appointed adjunct faculty at Our Lady of the Lake University for supervision of doctoral practicum students.
3 Timothy Palomera, MD Dr. Palomera completed his undergraduate and medical training in San Antonio. He attained his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). After serving as chief resident in his family medicine residency program, he completed a sports medicine fellowship at UTHSCSA. He is currently Board Certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. Dr. Palomera currently serves as team physician for a variety of San Antonio professional and college teams. He has served as the head team physician for the U. S. Army All-American Bowl since 2005, and is past chairman of the Valero Go Kids Challenge. Dr. Palomera is also on the medical staffs of the NBA San Antonio Spurs, the San Antonio Rock-N-Roll Marathon and several local high schools. He specializes in the nonoperative treatment of sports injuries. Jane Le Vieux, PhD, RN, LPS-S, RPT-S Dr. Le Vieux attained her BSN from University of South Alabama (1979); her MS (1989) and M.Ed. (1991) from University of North Texas and her PhD from Texas Woman s University. Dr. Le Vieux currently serves as the Clinical Manager for Inpatient Psychiatry at Children s Medical Center Dallas. As the Clinical Manager and former Psychiatry Consult Liaison Nurse at Children s Medical Center, she provides psychiatric, psychological and psychosocial support for inpatient, ambulatory, and medical surgical services, and the Emergency Department. Dr. Le Vieux precepts Master Level Nursing students from University of Texas at Arlington graduate school of nursing. She also provides weekly education to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows, residents and medical students rotating on the Psychiatric Consult Liaison Service.

MS Powell attained her BSN (1977) from Texas Woman s University and her MS in Community Health Administration (1998) from California College for Health Sciences. Joan Reinert Cary, BSN, RN, NCSN In addition to her 20 year nursing career in acute/critical care, MS Cary has served as a School Nurse for 13 years. She is the Special Procedure/Special Projects Nurse for Richardson Independent School District (ISD). MS Cary attained her Diploma in Nursing from Barnes Hospital School of Nursing, St. Louis, Missouri (1973) and her BSN from Texas Woman s University (1979).
6 Robert E. Conlon, PhD Dr. Conlon served Fort Bend Independent School District (ISD) for 22 years as Director of Student Support Services. In this role, he presided as Coordinator of the District s School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and served as a member of and Past Presiding Officer of the Texas School Health Advisory Committee (TSHAC). He currently serves as President of Whole Child Strategies, PLLC. Dr. Conlon attained his BS in Humanities and Social Sciences (1973) from Drexel University, Philadelphia PA and his PhD (1984) from The University of Texas Austin. Stephanie Kellam, MS, CPT MS Kellam served as the Student Wellness Coordinator for Fort Bend Independent School District (ISD). Her responsibilities included working with school nurses to implement wellness programs. Additionally, she serves as a District SHAC member and is a University of Houston College of Education Faculty member. MS Kellam attained her BA (2006) in Kinesiology at Rice University, Houston, Texas and her MS (2010) in Exercise Science from University of Houston. She most recently assumed the role of Coordinator of Health and PE at Fort Bend ISD which encompasses the responsibilities of District SHAC Coordinator.

8 Diane Rhodes, RRT, AE-C, RCP MS Rhodes is a Certified Asthma Educator (AE-C) and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with a thirty-four year career in the healthcare profession. She also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Tech University. She currently serves as the Assistant Director of the Asthma Awareness Education Program for the North East Independent School District (ISD). MS Rhodes developed and implemented an innovative, comprehensive Asthma Awareness Education Program. Innovations include symptom tracking mechanisms, environmental assessment and interventions, disease management strategies, and an emergency nebulizer protocol for students with a current physician documented diagnosis of Asthma. Through these innovative efforts North East ISD has gained local and National recognition and awards. Richard A. Middleton, PhD Dr. Middleton currently serves as the Southwest Regional Vice President for The College Board. Prior to this position he served the North East Independent School District (ISD) as Superintendent of Schools for 21 years. As an advocate for innovative change, during his tenure as Superintendent, Dr. Middleton received numerous recognitions and served on boards and legislative committees in support of public education. Additionally, Dr. Middleton led the development of the comprehensive wellness program for the North East ISD. His philosophy that a healthy child is an effective learner resulted in numerous requests for presentations about the District s wellness programs at many state and national conferences. Dr. Middleton received his undergraduate degree from Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas; his graduate degree from University of Texas at San Antonio; and his PhD from The University of Texas Austin.
9 Juliana J. Brixey, PhD, MPH, MSN, RN Dr. Brixey is currently employed as an associate professor at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Biomedical Informatics and joint appointment with School of Nursing. She serves as the Director of Interprofessional Education. Dr. Brixey has more than 30 years of experience in nursing management and direct care for medical surgical patients. Upon completion of her doctoral studies, she taught nursing informatics courses at the University of Kansas. In June, 2006, Dr. Brixey began her role at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston as assistant professor with teaching responsibilities in Applied Health Informatics. 10 Scott Rand, MD Dr. Rand is board certified in family medicine with certificate of added qualifications in sports medicine. He is the director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship program at Houston Methodist Willowbrook. Dr. Rand also presides as the medical director of the Houston Methodist Human Performance Lab. Dr. Rand s practice focuses on the overall medical care, concussion management and non-operative orthopedic care of athletes and active people of all ages. He is recognized as a national leader in Primary Care Sports Medicine education. Dr. Rand is an assistant professor at Weill Cornell Medical College and a consulting team physician for many area high schools, club sports, running groups, and is one of the team physicians for Rice University.
