2 Safe Swiss Cloud Self Service Control Panel Go to the URL: Select your preferred language from the language drop down list first (fourth input field). Login: Password: xxxxxxx (you will have received this by ) Sent to you separately (e.g. by SMS) Domain: Sent to you with your registration. Something like VDC/yourcompanyname You have to enter the domain exactly as specified in your account creation . The domain and all login information including the password are case insensitive. So if you are having trouble logging in, check your spelling for proper capitalization. After logging in, click on the Instances menu on the left hand sidebar, and then the "Add Instance" button (top right). A wizard will appear and ask you to configure a virtual machine in 7 steps (see screenshots in Add an Instance below: In the first screen of the wizard, click Next to accept the default selection (template). Select the template you want (Ubuntu, CentOs, Windows etc.) and click Next. Select the compute offering: always select the Clustered HA option. This determines the size of the virtual machine. Click Next. Select a backup disk and its size if necessary. Click Next. Affinity groups: click Next to accept default. Select the public network and click Next. In the Name field, enter the name of your virtual machine e.g. demotest7. Click Launch VM. Your virtual machine will come up in a few seconds: Click on the name of the virtual machine to see details about it. Click the NIC tab to get the IP address. Please note the following about for demo accounts: You can always upgrade your demo account without any loss of data by signing up and converting the demo account to a regular one. Safe Swiss Cloud does not make any backups of the virtual machine instances. You are welcome to make your own backups. The resources available for a demo account are limited (number of VM instances, total RAM, CPU, disk space etc.). You have a maximum of 2 public IP addresses available for the VMs in a demo account. Demo accounts may have various other restrictions on advanced networking features, snapshots, creation of templates etc. Page 2 of 11

7 Step 4: Launch VM Click Lauch VM and in a few seconds to minutes (Windows templates take longer to start than Linux templates), your VM will be up and running. You can monitor the progress on the Instances screen. Page 7 of 11

8 Finding the IP Address of a VM SSH access for PCs, Macs and Linux For PCs You should install a software called putty (download here: - this will give you full ssh functionality including WinSCP, which is good for copying files, FTP etc. Our Linux VM templates run the SSH server (sshd) by default. On Windows you may need to install the Bitvise WinSSHD server. SSH will only give you command line access to Windows, so we recommend that you configure your Windows VMs to run RDP. RDP will give you a remote Windows GUI which will allow you to use and manage Windows properly through the GUI. For Mac and Linux Apple Macs and Linux machines have built-in ssh access from their command lines. Page 8 of 11

9 Accessing and setting up Linux Virtual Machines You can ssh to a virtual machine using the command: ssh root@<ip Address of your VM> You will be prompted for the password - you will have received this second password in a separate SMS. Adminstering LAMP Templates with Virtualmin Our LAMP templates (SSC-. LAMP. ) come pre-installed with: 1. LAMP: Linux, Apache Web Server, MySQL database, PHP 2. Virtualmin GPL control panel You can administer a LAMP virtual machine through the Virtualmin Web Interface at: address>:10000 You should make a DNS entry with your own preferred domain that points to this IP address. This will allow you to access your VM instance using the domain name instead of the IP address. Login as user root with the password you received in the pop-up when you started your virtual machine. This will allow you to administer the Linux VM using Virtualmin (See for more information). Page 9 of 11

10 Click Add Exception and Confirm the Security Exception. In Chrome, IE or Safari browsers you will will get slightly different looking but similar pop-up dialogs. Now you will see the login screen to the Virtual Machine administration panel (Webmin / Virtualmin): Login to the Virtual Machine administration panel (Webmin / Virtualmin) using the root account with the password you received from the Safe Swiss Cloud Control Panel when you started the VM. 11 Licensing for Microsoft Products We provide licensing for Microsoft products. You need to contact us to enable licensing if you want to use MIcrosoft products like Windows, SQL Server, Sharepoint, Exchange etc. Monthly licensing fees will apply for using Microsoft products. We will be happy to send you information about the licensing costs for using these products on Safe Swiss Cloud. NOTE: Microsoft s Data Center licensing rules DO NOT ALLOW the use of existing desktop or server licenses. You have to license these from the data center where you are running your virtual machines.
