People for Success in the Next 100 Years AGENDA Host Airline
Tuesday 4 November Topic Focus Workshop - Diversity Women in Aviation Leadership 14:00 A special session on Tuesday afternoon will be held in advance of the formal opening of the symposium for all delegates, focusing on women as a source of leadership talent across the aviation industry. The starting point will be highlights from a recent global gender research study by Mercer which examined the critical gender issues affecting women in the workplace. You will learn about the benchmark organizational practices identified in the study and how they impact the representation and advancement of women in the workforce. From global theory, the focus will shift to the individual expectations of a select group of future female leaders. These aspirations will be balanced with personal stories from a range of uniquely successful women who have broken the glass ceiling. You will hear about how to create and use effective networks to harness the power of current female executives to accelerate the progress of future female leaders. Global Gender Research Study Mandy Schreuder, Principal - HR M&A Consulting, Mercer Young Women Leaders of Tomorrow Altaf Ahmed al-khattabi, Ground Handling Agreements Manager, Yemen Airways Pamela Pollak, HR Manager - Corporate, United Airlines Susie Barrett, Pilot Training Manager - B717 and MD88/90, Delta Air Lines, Inc. Jane Hoskisson, Director, Learning and Development, IATA Successful Women Leaders of Today Christine Ourmieres, CEO, CityJet Barbara Falvey, Senior Vice President - Human Resources, Hawaiian Airlines Jane Allen, former Senior Vice President Human Resources, United Airlines Carol Rabaidi, Captain, Royal Jordanian Airlines Jill Nealon, Vice President - People, Performance and Development, IATA Building and Using External Networks Carol Ronan-Heath, Board Member, International Aviation Womens Association (IAWA) Milena Jaburkova, co-chair Central European Womens Council, IBM
Wednesday 5 November Opening Plenary The Strategic Viewpoint The People Perspective from 39,000 feet 09:00 The formal opening session for the symposium will be launched by a senior leader from our host airline, Czech Airlines, to welcome you to Prague and provide a perspective on the local commercial aviation environment. The IATA Economics unit will provide an update on the global economic and industry outlook. With this foundation, you will hear from a distinguished panel of aviation thought leaders on how these trends will translate into strategic initiatives across the spectrum of commercial air transport and what implications they have for people leaders as well as key professionals who will be needed to support the future of our industry Welcome keynote remarks Jozef Sinčák, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Czech Airlines Global and industry economic outlook Julie Perovic, Senior Economist, IATA People the Strategic View: Michael Bell, Co-leader: Global Aviation, Aerospace & Defense Practice, Spencer Stuart Dave Barger, CEO, JetBlue Rob Fyfe, former CEO, Air New Zealand Sebastian Mikosz, CEO, LOT Polish Airlines Topic Focus Session: Attraction and Retention Addressing the Potential Skills Gap: Developing a Value Proposition for Aviation Careers 14:00 This People Symposium session is a result of the skills gap fact or fiction discussion at the 70th IATA Annual General Meeting in Doha, Qatar in June In that session, the opinion surfaced that our industry appears to have lost some of its glamorous image. Recently, this general reputation issue has been further impacted by isolated yet highly publicized incidents. At the same time, there are many elements that can draw a larger pool of young people to join this exciting and rewarding industry. Can the aviation/airline industry market itself better? To move this concept towards reality, the symposium delegates will contribute their views to help develop a compelling statement to attract people to careers in aviation. Your work will go forward to drive future success in commercial aviation. Faciltators: Michael Bell, Co-leader: Global Aviation, Aerospace & Defense Practice, Spencer Stuart Thierry Lindenau, Co-leader: Global Aviation Practice, Spencer Stuart John Boggs, Director Employee Engagement, IATA
Leading in Service, Managing Cost Succesfully Balancing the Conflict 16:00 As a service business, commercial aviation relies on people while constantly seeking opportunities for cost efficiencies. Through a case study of how this balance has been achieved, this session promises to provide useful information for practical application in your organization. Jim Lynde, former Senior Vice President Human Resources, Spirit Airlines Thursday 6 November Organizational Development and Success Paths to Aviation Leadership: Outsiders at the Top 09:00 The aviation industry has traditionally looked to groom its leaders from within, holding that the specialized and technical nature of our business requires people with knowledge and experience in the nuts and bolts of commercial flight. Some have taken the opposite view and looked to bring in successful executives from outside aviation as leaders who will take a fresh perspective and question the status quo. What are the essential ingredients required for success with an external senior leader for the individual as well as the company? When is it the right thing to do and when is it wrong? This discussion will build on the experience of the panel as well as other delegates to draw some conclusions and provide some guidance for success when this option is chosen. Michael Bell, Co-leader:Global Aviation, Aerospace & Defense Practice, Spencer Stuart Rob Fyfe, former CEO, Air New Zealand Barbara Falvey, Senior Vice President - Human Resources, Hawaiian Airlines Jim Lynde, former Senior Vice President Human Resources, Spirit Airlines
Learning and Development Topic sponsored by: Innovation in Learning and Development 11:00 Achieving a step-change in learning and development outcomes requires new approaches. Take a peek into the future to examine the trends and technologies that hold possibilities to deliver results. Can artificial intelligence translate source materials into personalized, emotionally intelligent training? Will gamification in learning increase motivation, provide recognition and ensure job knowledge? Is it feasible to use 3D simulation and virtual reality for skills development? Does Learning Technology help or hinder innovation in a corporate context? Can a new twist on the polytechnic approach to academic instruction enhance effectiveness? Balancing the prospects of the future against the best practices of today, you will learn about the leading edge work in the aviation sector at airlines, aviation training organizations and aeronautical universities from around the globe. This session will help you gain an understanding of what is possible to improve the effectiveness and efficiency in developing future aviation professionals both in the near and long term and take away new ideas to test and adopt in your organization Artificial Intelligence Domingo Senise, VP Marketing and Communications, Taiger Gamification Juliette Denny, Managing Director, Growth Engineering 3D Simulation Tim Fleming, Founder and Director, Plastic Reality Learning Technology Colin Hudson, Senior Solution Consultant, PeopleFluent Polytechnic education John Wensveen, Head Department of Aviation Technology, Purdue University Panel Discussion Victor De Barrena, Director - IATA Training and Development Institute, IATA Hassan Uncular, HR Manager, Turkish Airlines Diego Martinez, Manager, TRAINAIR PLUS Program, ICAO John Wensveen, Head Department of Aviation Technology, Purdue University 16:00 Closing Remarks
