5 Distinct from consulting, which is information-based and relies on knowledge, expertise, and experience in a particular field or area. Distinct from therapy, which is generally for handling unresolved issues from the past. Most similar to sports coaching in that it is an encouraging, supportive, inspiring and challenging relationship.

7 Education or Training. You are about to embark on an expensive or time-consuming course of study and want to make sure you aren't wasting your money or your time. Lack of Clarity or Direction. You don't know what you want to do when you grow up, whatever your age! Career Change. You are successful, but still not satisfied or you have become tired and bored with your current work. You are thinking about doing something different, but aren't sure what the best option is.

You keep changing jobs, and at first, really like the new job, but then end up feeling something is missing so take a different job. You feel you haven't tapped into your full potential. 10 1) Natural Abilities. These are identified and measured by the Highlands Ability Battery. You'll be happiest and perform at your best when your natural abilities are employed to the fullest. 2) Skills. These are those function-driven tasks an individual has learned to do well. They develop over time through study, education, application and practice. To the extent that you takes advantage of your innate abilities in developing a skill, the skill will be acquired more quickly, easily and fully.

11 3) Personal Style. You have developed your own unique speech patterns, body language, social devices, and personality traits. Because other individuals respond either more or less favorably to your personal style, it's important to identify key traits that enable you to relate better to other people. 4) Interests. Over the years, you develop personal interests. When these are identified and recognized, you can combine these interests with your abilities to achieve a fuller and more integrated use of both.

12 5) Family of Origin. Your background and family shape your life and work ethic. We encourage you to examine how your family's history and intra-family relationships have influenced you and your choices. 6) Values. Your values (i.e., your scales for judging right and wrong, wise and foolish choices, and what is most important to you) define your reaction to people and events around you. Understanding your values combined with knowledge of the other seven factors, will help you clearly see why you make certain choices over others and how to make the best choices in the future.

13 7) Goals. Your goals drive your actions, both present and future. You may wish to modify these goals in light of your innate abilities. For example, the results of the timeframe work sample may show that you are happiest pursuing short-term goals and may need help setting long-range goals. 8) Career Development Stage. Everyone confronts critical stages or transition in life, from just beginning your career, to retiring. Knowing your abilities makes it easier to make the best choices throughout all stages of your career.
