22 2008 KDOT grant for DUI Victim Panel statewide expansion and Court Watch program in Sedgwick County. Reestablished Drive for Victims with local law enforcement. Co-Sponsored Pizza and Ribbons for area public and private High Schools. Largest attendance for Candlelight Vigil. First Town Hall meeting.

23 nd. Year for KDOT funding with an added goal to research the potential for Driver Education students to attend the DUI Victim Panel. Develop a major fundraiser with a focus on women Chocolate and Shoes. Expand Holiday Drive for Victims to other areas of Kansas. Update Website and post Court Watch outcomes.

24 Introduce panel concept to local judicial and municipal court representatives. Acquire DUI conviction and diversion statistics to determine frequency of presentations in the new area. Discuss potential for speakers/volunteers from local community. Train speakers and volunteers for panel presentations. Find location for presentations courtroom is best. Invite judges, prosecutors, CSOs, etc. to Community Panel. Panels will be established once Community Panel has been introduced to those who will be referring offenders.

26 A Victim s Voice Although a victim advocate is not an attorney, they assure the victim s voice is heard within the Criminal Justice System. Judges want to hear from those most affected by the crime. Laws change because people care enough to make them change. Attitudes toward the crime change when the human consequences are emotionally experienced. The Victim s Voice must be heard in prevention and education as well as in the Criminal Justice System.
