Major Gifts, Major Impact Rotary International meets vital needs Rotary International The Rotary Foundation
We are proud to support the great work of The Rotary Foundation, particularly Rotary s effort to eradicate polio. We were honored to join a group of Georgia Rotarians for National Immunization Days in India in Today, India is no longer polio endemic. We believe, thanks to Rotary, that polio will be vanquished from the earth. Jim and Donna Philips Rotary Club of Decatur, Georgia, USA
Through the generosity of people like you, Rotary funds sustainable projects that help communities throughout the world address their greatest challenges. Rotary projects yield both immediate and long-term benefits, while multiplying the impact of each gift, strengthening communities, and building world understanding and peace. Rotary supports projects in six areas of focus: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution Disease prevention and treatment Water and sanitation Maternal and child health Basic education and literacy Economic and community development Rotary s top priority remains the eradication of polio. Through PolioPlus, Rotary is a leading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, along with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and more recently the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Rotary has helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children, mobilized public support, and contributed over US$1 billion in the effort. Polio cases have dropped 99 percent since 1988 when the GPEI began. The reason we make contributions to The Rotary Foundation is to support... the services they provide that ultimately advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace. Masahiro and Michiko Kuroda Rotary Club of Hachinohe South, Aomori, Japan
You can make a difference Your gift to The Rotary Foundation can build a better world by providing grants for projects and activities like these: Sustainable clean water: In rural Sierra Leone, local Rotarians helped residents install wells that bring safe water to more than 70,000 people. Rotarians helped choose locations for the wells, monitored their effectiveness, and formed community committees to maintain the wells. Preventing disease: More than 1,400 households near Surakarta, Indonesia, now have an 85 percent lower risk of contracting dengue fever, thanks to a Rotary global grant that provided equipment and education to disrupt the breeding cycle of disease-spreading mosquitoes. Education and health: More than 500 students in Guatemala now receive a school education as part of a Foundation grant project. Over time, the project expanded to include a medical clinic serving 25,000 people, a dental clinic, several clean water projects, a restaurant that provides vocational training, and seven women s cooperatives. Lowering child mortality: Korean and Tanzanian Rotarians established a 55-bed maternal and child health complex near Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The facility saves the lives of as many as 40 children a day. Economic development: Farmers in Nkondo, Uganda, now have the training to produce crops with both high nutritional content and high market values. This effort, which is part of an adopt-a-village project, also established a microcredit program that has a nearly 100 percent loan repayment rate. Peace studies: After a Rotary Peace Fellowship, Maria Saifuddin Effendi helped establish the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies the first of its kind in Pakistan at National Defense University in Islamabad. She is now an assistant professor in the department, which offers a master s degree in peace and conflict studies. One of the [major] areas of Rotary International is literacy. We thought that by establishing an endowed fund in The Rotary Foundation, we could help this cause more effectively. Poverty can be eradicated only with the spread of education. Rajendra R. and Shubha Laxmi Chhapwale Rotary Club of Mumbai, North Island, Maharashtra, India
Rotary s global grants provide a unique opportunity for my gift to have immediate impact in the communities of Abuja. I thought it was important to give back to my community, and I m hoping that I have planted the seed which will inspire others to give as well. Michael and Yemisi Omotosho Rotary Club of Abuja Metro, Abuja, Nigeria
I am very happy to be part of this wonderful Rotary family, one of the largest in the world. Contributing to The Rotary Foundation means being sure that your money will be managed very well and efficiently. Oswaldo and Hisame Takata Rotary Club of São Paulo-Sudeste, São Paulo, Brazil
Ways to make a major gift (all amounts shown in U.S. dollars) Major gifts of $10,000 or more provide crucial support for Rotary s programs and can be funded through: Appreciated securities Major gift pledge Cash Real estate Life income agreements Estate or other planned gifts In addition to making a major gift during your lifetime, you may also consider any of these options through your will or estate plan. Named giving opportunities are available to support Rotary s strategic priorities through an endowed gift through a term (one-time) gift. These can be created by an individual, a corporation, or a foundation in the name of the donor or someone the donor chooses to honor. Giving for a lasting impact A gift to Rotary s endowment ensures a strong future for the Foundation by providing a continuous stream of income that will fund Foundation programs in perpetuity. Gifts are invested, and the spendable earnings are used to support the program you have designated. When volunteering overseas with Rotary, I have been able to personally see and hear, taste and feel the work of The Rotary Foundation. By giving to our Foundation, we bring help to the places where Rotary is needed the most and fulfill the Foundation s mission of Doing Good in the World. Tanya Wolff Rotary Club of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada Past governor of District 6330 Major Donor
With a gift of $25,000 or more, you can establish an endowed fund. At this level, the spendable earnings can be directed to the World Fund or to SHARE to help meet the greatest needs. Other naming opportunities include: Endowed global grant gift options $100,000 or more to support one area of focus $250,000 or more to support one area of focus tied to a specified district $500,000 or more to support one area of focus tied to a specified district and with additional geographic specificity Endowed Rotary Peace Centers gift options $25,000 or more provides general support Photo courtesy of Izabela Pereira $100,000 endows an annual seminar $250,000 endows a fellowship for one professional development certificate student approximately every year $500,000 endows a fellowship for one master s degree student approximately every three to four years $750,000 endows a fellowship for one master s degree student approximately every two to three years $1 million endows one visiting lecturer approximately each year $1.5 million endows a fellowship for one master s degree student approximately every year Note that availability may vary depending on investment performance spending policy. Jan and I truly believe that the Rotary Peace Centers program is a real gem and has the potential to bring peace to the world. We have met several peace fellows and have been impressed by their sense of purpose, direction, and dedication. We hope to be able to continue supporting the program in the future. James and Jan Heinrich Rotary Club of St. Marys, Ohio, USA Past governor of District 6600
Term giving possibilities You can support global grants or the Rotary Peace Centers by making a term (one-time) gift that will be expended entirely on the designated program, often during the following year. Global grant gift options $15,000 to support one area of focus $30,000 to support one area of focus tied to a specified district Rotary Peace Centers gift options $60,000 to sponsor approximately five Rotary Peace Fellows seeking professional development certificates $75,000 to sponsor up to 10 internships or research projects for master s degree Fellows $75,000 to sponsor one Fellow at a two-year master s degree center How the gift options work Invested Endowment Your major gift (appreciated securities, cash, life income agreement, pledge, real estate) Earnings Term gift Project spending My district carried out The Rotary Foundation global grant project Heart to Heart with District 3240 in India, which resulted in successful heart surgeries on 44 Indian children with congenital heart disease.... When Rotary can impact more souls of mankind, real peace in the world can be achieved sooner. Hong-Joo Yoon and Kyung Hee Lee Rotary Club of Busan Mugunghwa, Korea Past governor of District 3660
There is an old proverb in our country that says, to give is more lucky than to take. How lucky are we that we can give. Carbon Shue-Liang and Yoshiko Shu-Yan Hong Wang Rotary Club of Panchiao, Taiwan
Share with others the importance of supporting Rotary programs Rotary welcomes the opportunity to recognize gifts of $10,000 or more with Major Donor recognition and gifts of $250,000 or more with Arch C. Klumph Society recognition. There are many options for supporting Rotary and the good work done by Rotarians around the world every day. Contact a club or district representative or Rotary gift officer today to explore how you can reach your philanthropic goals.
