1 Sheffield Hallam University Masters Scholarship Scheme The University is offering up to 141 scholarships for home/eu students to study here as part of a Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) initiative aimed at removing barriers to masters education for students from under-represented groups. These groups include people who wouldn't ordinarily consider postgraduate study. This could be due to access to funding, caring responsibilities or because they come from areas where it is not usual to go to university. All masters-level courses are eligible except postgraduate diplomas, postgraduate certificates and integrated masters courses funded by other public bodies (such as PGCE and MArch Architecture) and fully funded NHS courses. Students must be self-funded. Each award is to the value of 10,000. Successful recipients will not be eligible for any other Sheffield Hallam scholarships or discounts. 3 3. General criteria The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has set some general eligibility criteria for these scholarships. Please confirm the following. I am a home/eu student progressing from an undergraduate course in the England for which I was charged the higher tuition fee that has applied since and I am not in receipt of undergraduate fee subsidies from Student Finance Wales, Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) or Student Finance rthern Ireland. In addition if you are NOT a Sheffield Hallam student please provide the following. A letter to show you were charged the higher undergraduate tuition fee which came into effect in 2012 eg Student Finance England letter of entitlement and a letter from your current University confirming your fee status. 4. Award criteria You must be able to answer 'yes' to one of the criteria in this section ( ) in order to be considered for a Scholarship These scholarships are aimed at removing barriers to masters education for students from under-represented groups at Sheffield Hallam University. You must be able to confirm (and where applicable provide evidence) that you are eligible within one of these groups. 4.1 Students who are care leavers Did you enter your undergraduate course from a care background ie you were in care for a minimum of three months from year 10 onwards and were under 25 when you began your undergraduate course? a letter from your local authority or a letter from your previous University confirming your care leaver status 4.2 Students who provide care for others Are you a carer for an ill or disabled family member?

4 If yes, you must provide or or or confirmation of receipt of (or ex-receipt of as students are not eligible) of carer's allowance confirmation of membership of a young carer's support group a letter from social services stating they are aware of the situation and your contribution to caring a letter from a doctor or other healthcare professional who can verify your situation and your contribution to caring 4.3 Students with disabilities Do you receive Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) as an undergraduate student? DSA report or letter confirming your DSA award 4.4 Students receiving financial support Do you receive a Maintenance Grant or a Special Support Grant as a final year undergraduate? Student Finance England letter confirming your maintenance or special support grant

5 4.5 Students who come from areas where a lower proportion of people go to university Does the postcode of your home address in your last year of school or college show, as provided in the 'personal details' section indicate you are from an area where a lower proportion of people go to university? This is defined by the government's classification called POLAR3. To meet these criteria, your address must fall into quintile 1 or 2. Check your address area using the Participation of Local Areas (POLAR) search tool. Please note this information only covers the UK. Find out more at Students who were admitted to their undergraduate course with a BTEC level 3 or Access to HE qualification Were you admitted to your undergraduate course with a BTEC level 3 or Access to HE qualification? a copy of your BTEC level 3 or Access to HE certificate (please note your scholarship is managed separately to your course application so these will need to provided for both separately) Additional considerations In the event of there being more eligible applications than scholarships, Sheffield Hallam will prioritise applications based on the number of criteria they meet and will also take into account that the University is aiming to increase the number of Sheffield Hallam graduates at taught postgraduate level the number of women studying engineering, maths, computing and sport at taught postgraduate level the number of men studying humanities, law and criminology, psychology, sociology and politics, service sector management and social care and community studies at taught postgraduate level the number of black and minority ethnic students studying at taught postgraduate level The information provided in this application will be reviewed alongside your application for your masters course, and if you are a Sheffield Hallam student, eligibility criteria will be verified via your Sheffield Hallam student record. The Sheffield Hallam University Masters Scholarship Scheme is a competitive award and meeting one or more of the criteria does not guarantee success.
