A hidden piping network delivers heated water from a single production source to all of the buildings linked into the network. All hot water and space heating requirements are met by this energy efficient and reliable source. 5 Frequently Asked Questions 1. How does the Community Heating System (CHS) work? A CHS is a heating network with one boilerhouse providing all of the heat for all the residential units connected to the CHS. In Heuston South Quarter, the boiler house comprises of one Biomass Boiler, and 3 high efficiency Gas Boilers, all providing heat into the system. Such a choice of heat-raising facilities means greater convenience for the customers, as well as the environmental and economic savings for all concerned. The boilers produce hot water which is pumped around a primary circuit. The primary distribution circuit, via the building sub-station, passes heat into the secondary distribution circuit within the building. The secondary distribution circuit provide a hot water supply to the apartment sub-system which is converted by the Danfoss unit into space heating and instantaneous hot water for the customer. At the entrance to each building and apartment there is a heat meter unit which records the amount of energy used. This means that the customers are billed accurately, only for the heat that they draw off the system. As the heat for the entire apartment block is generated by a single source, this translates in terms of energy efficiency to a more efficient, cost effective and environmentally friendly way of heating your living space.

6 2. What is a biomass boiler? A biomass boiler is a boiler which uses wood chips or wood pellets as fuel which are produced in Ireland and are more environmentally friendly when compared to traditional fossil fuel burning boilers. 3. If I have a heating or hot water problem within the apartment who do I contact to solve the problem? Heating problems within the apartments fall under two headings: i. Problems with the greater heat supply: This is a problem encountered on a large scale within the apartment complex. This will generally be problems to do with heat supply to the complex as a whole, or could be problems to do with individual heat meter units. Either way, if the problem falls under Dalkia s scope of responsibility, you will not be billed for any repairs carried out, and the team of Veolia technicians & engineers maybe contacted to solve the problem. ii. Problems within the apartments: The apartments are the private property of the owner, and the scope of Veolia s contract ends at the supply pipe work to the apartment subsystem. While Veolia are responsible for a continuous and uninterruptible supply of heat, we are not responsible for the equipment, piping, hot-water outlets and radiators within your apartment. So in the case of leaks from piping or radiators, or heat imbalances between radiators you may contact a qualified plumber. While Veolia will have no direct involvement in these works it is extremely important that you notify the Veolia helpdesk about the time and nature of the work you are having carried out on the system within your apartment. Failure to notify Veolia about works carried out could result in a loss of heating to the entire apartment block. 4. What do I do if I have a leak in my apartment? As above for 3 ii.
