1 Graduate Studies Office Strategic Plan
2 who we are the graduate StudieS Office is an academic SuPPOrt unit; it has five functional areas that SuPPOrt graduate StudieS at the university Of WaterlOO:» academic and enrolment records» admissions» Communications and recruitment» Financial aid and awards» Systems The associate Provost, Graduate Studies provides oversight of the Graduate Studies office along with leadership to enable the University to achieve the highest possible standards in graduate studies. The Graduate Studies office works in partnership with the University s Faculties and departments, who propel the academic mission of the University; as well as the Graduate Student association, the official group representing graduate students at the University of waterloo. The Graduate Studies office also works with other support units at waterloo to provide the best graduate student experience and to realize the academic mission.
3 The six priority areas identified within the Graduate Studies office Strategic Plan build upon our foundational culture of collaboration and look toward the future to pursue new innovative opportunities, partnerships and initiatives. The Graduate Studies office Strategic Plan, and the business processes that operationalize the plan, directly support the University s Strategic Plan which highlights the importance of graduate studies at waterloo. vision The Graduate Studies office will collaboratively advance innovative business processes to support the graduate community and achieve the University s goals. mission To support excellence in graduate education through leadership, collaboration and shared expertise.
4 STraTeGiC PrioriTieS, GoalS 4 1cOmmunicatiOnS/cOllabOratiOn/ marketing/recruitment goal» Develop university-wide marketing, recruitment and communication strategies for graduate studies To achieve this goal, we aim to work with our partners to:» Develop communication plans aligned with strategic priorities (University/ Faculty/Graduate Studies office)» Develop partner and media engagement strategies (e.g. Three minute Thesis Competition, funding announcements)» Develop a central marketing and recruitment strategy to promote graduate studies at the University of waterloo» Develop a communication strategy for the various stages of enrolment management, e.g. inquiry, admission, funding, enrolment and graduation 2 3» Provide central marketing leadership to support online graduate program growth admissions internationalization goal» Reduce university-wide goal» Develop an internationalization processing times for graduate strategy for graduate studies, to align with, admissions and improve yields and support the institutional approach To achieve this goal, we aim to work To achieve this goal, we aim to work with our partners to: with our partners to:» establish university-wide deadlines for graduate admission recommendations» Develop a strategy and implementation plan to provide skills, knowledge and expertise to graduate admission stakeholders» establish a University of waterloo Graduate Studies online application for admission» increase recruitment and admission of excellent students with external scholarships or sponsorship from their home country» offer more opportunities for joint degree programs and cotutelle agreements, where appropriate and in alignment with the University Strategic Plan» establish more concise guidelines and resources on international education systems, agreements and procedures for applicants and departments
