6 1 Introduction Established in 2000 as Britain s first independent power exchange, APX Power UK offers authoritative industry benchmark indices, Over-the-Counter (OTC) clearing services and Day-Ahead Auction results. For analytical purposes APX Power UK can provide you with data dating back to April 2001, which is used within the industry from generators to journalists. The APX Power UK Day-Ahead Auction data is available from December 3 rd, 2008 from the APX FTP server. Further information on the Auction is available from APX UK Power Auction Market Guide. All reports are available from the FTP server with some also featuring on the APX Power UK public section of the APX Group website - 6

8 2.2 Monthly Market Bulletin APX Power UK DART is the Day-Ahead real time index, calculated between 08:00 and 18:00 on normal business days. DART information is available through four files. 10 The DART Mid-Day and End of Day Fixing Files The DART individual fixing value files contain the same information as the historic files, although they report one day only and in a fix format (similar to a csv file). One file is produced for the mid-day fixing values and another for the end of day fixing values. 23 All product types open for trading on a ( one on, one off ) rolling product basis. The number of rolling products is constant. For example, there are 42 rolling 4 Hour Block products open for trading at all times, thus any given 4 Hour Block product is open for seven calendar days before it closes. All products close for trading thirty minutes before Gate Closure for the first BSC Settlement Period to which they relate, with the exception of 4 Hour Block products, which close thirty-four minutes before Gate Closure for the first BSC Settlement Period, and 2 Hour Block products, which close thirty-two minutes before (capitalised definitions in accordance with the Balancing and Settlement Code). Opening Times Day-Ahead Market The instruments in the APX UK Power Auction are open for entry of order submission 14 days before delivery (D-14). The deadline for submitting orders is 10:30 UK local time on the day before delivery (D-1) and is referred to as the Market Closure. Clock Change Numbering Continuous Market Numbering of Half Hour products follows the convention in the Balancing and Settlement Code. On the short clock-change day, the products are numbered 01 to 46; on the long-clock change day, 01 to 50.
