1 Pre-Approved Coursework for the Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) Any of the below courses may be taken to fulfill areas of coursework needed for the professional educator license. Many of these courses are offered online. This is not an inclusive list of all acceptable coursework that may be taken; if you wish to take a course that is not listed below, please submit an official course description to the Illinois State Board of Education for approval. Please note that some of the below courses may no longer be offered by the institution, but they will still be honored if taken previously. To obtain a professional educator license, educators must complete coursework in cross-categorical special education methods, ESL/bilingual methods, reading in the content area, and reading methods.
