3 During the summer of 1968 a questionnaire was mailed to all principals of private and public high schools in the State. The questionnaire dealt with the Instructional Use of the Computer and included questions that would determine the teachers and students who were using a computer (including the subject area designation), the type of hardware involved, the location of the computer and the software utilized. Eighty se-von per cent of all public and private secondary schools in Connecticut responded to the questionnaire. This included a 77% return from the private and parochial schools and a 95% return from the public schools. In answer to the question, "Is a computer being used by students and teachers in the instructional program in any subject at your school?" the results are as follows: Type of Number Private (including parochial) Public % 18% 89% 82% Those schools answering "yes" to the initial question submitted additional information. Pages 3 through 6 contain information derived from the responses of the 34 schools who said their teachers and students were using a computer as a part of their instructional program.
