3 Besides herbs to promote the health of joints, we have added Sendha namak (rock salt) in Namyaa, which unlike normal salt, is a digestive stimulant, and increases the digestion of other herbs in the formulation. According to Ayurvedic texts, Sendha namak is also considered to have antiinflammatory properties. It is even recommended in the daily diet to promote digestion and reduce 6. For best results, also massage the affected area with sesame oil and then use a potli to do hot fomentation. This will improve blood circulation, reduce pain and increase the mobility of joints. 8. What are the precautions while taking Namyaa? Namyaa should not be used by patients with skin allergies or kidney disease. Therefore, it is advisable to take it under your Physician s supervision. 9. Why is it important to treat arthritis in its early stage? Early treatment is the key to avoid permanent joint damage or prevent joint disability and the progression of arthritis. Therefore, treatment for arthritis combines a variety of approaches, aimed at relieving pain, reducing joint swelling, slowing or preventing joint damage, improving physical function and the quality of life. 10. What are the diet and lifestyle recommendations for arthritic patients to reduce pain and inflammation? To increase the efficacy of Namyaa, we recommend the following health guidelines to reduce inflammation and pain: Start your day with a glass of lukewarm water preferably along with 1 teaspoon of Triphala Eat vegetables like spinach, kale, gourds and limit the intake of high protein food like lentils (daal) etc. Use rock salt for preparing food Maintaining optimum body weight will put less pressure on your joints Light yogic exercise will ease the joint movement Walk after lunch or dinner (approximately 100 steps) 3
4 Massage the affected area with sesame oil or any other Ayurvedic medicated oil, then do hot fomentation over the affected area. This will improve the blood circulation, reduce pain and increase the mobility of joints. Wear a kneecap, collar band or elastic bandage etc. to cover the affected area as recommended by the physician and keep it warm. 9. Why is it important to follow dietary and lifestyle guidelines while treating any kind of arthritis or joint pain with Namyaa? It is important to follow the health guidelines (mentioned above) as our diets and lifestyles have an important role in aggravating or reducing the joint inflammation and pain. Health guidelines to reduce inflammation & pain Start your day with a glass of lukewarm water preferably along with 1 teaspoon of Triphala Eat vegetables like spinach, kale and gourds and limit the intake of high protein food like lentils (daal) etc. Rationale This removes toxins from the body and cleanses the intestine, so that nutrients and other supplements (even drugs) are better absorbed via intestinal walls. The removal of toxins from the body will tend to decrease inflammation of the joints. Toxins, if present in the body, get deposited around the joint area causing joint damage (e.g. uric acid crystals). Vegetables are full of fibers that will again help cleanse the system to work better and efficiently. High protein food is heavy to digest even for a normal person with no joint problems. Therefore, it is advisable to consume food which is easily digestible, as people with joint problems cannot do as much physical activity to enhance their digestion. Also, if food remains undigested for a long period of time, it causes inflammation in the body. Use rock salt for preparing food. Rock salt is known to enhance digestion and reduce Maintaining optimum body weight will Optimum body weight is advisable for all, and it put less pressure on your joints. is most important for a person with joint pain so Light yogic exercise will ease the joint movement Walk after lunch or dinner (approximately 100 steps) Massage the affected area with sesame oil or any other Ayurvedic medicated oil, then do hot fomentation over the affected area. This will improve the blood circulation, reduce pain and that there is less pressure on the joints. Light yogic exercises are beneficial in the place of rigorous workouts to improve the mobility of joints Walking after your meal will increase metabolism (undigested food, if remain accumulated in the body, can be converted into toxin, that may cause inflammation in the cells of the body including joints). Massaging with oil will nourish the bones, improve blood circulation and increase the mobility of joints whereas covering the affected area to keep it warm will reduce inflammation and pain 4
5 increase the mobility of joints. Wear a kneecap, collar band or elastic bandage etc. to cover the affected area as recommended by the physician and keep it warm 5
