7 Native Pride We have to be proud of who we are (that s universal) Self Respect allows for a positive outlook as an individual negativity harbors chaos/drama/violence Love of Family Understanding our environment (extremely traditional concept historically, a survival necessity) Community Involvement Tribal Respect/Better our World Transference of that love to our Children Children are Gifts of the Great Spirit

9 Cultural competence Understanding how values, beliefs, attitudes and traditions influence our behavior Not many people are well versed in cultural comparison nor can identify the differences because they have only lived on one side of the spectrum The cultural shock interacting between both worlds is literally shocking
