Regulatory changes are speeding up the development and introduction of semi-conductor-based products (SSL), while the demand for traditional products is falling. At the same time, the falling prices for LED components and products, particularly in the field of general illumination, have made more widespread use in many market segments more attractive. 6 Luminaire program Energy labeling Which lamp is behind things: The energy label for luminaires Energy labeling for electrical light sources and luminaires has been newly regulated with the EU 874/2012 Directive. This goes hand-in-hand with new requirements concerning communication to private end consumers, especially with luminaires. OSRAM discloses all relevant luminaire information in this regard and provides energy label data for downloading. Legislative basis: EU 874/2012 Directive for energy consumption labeling The aim of the directive is to promote products with low energy consumption through concise and clear information concerning energy efficiency. This is the reason why all lamps and certain luminaires are designated with an energy label. The energy labels for lamps and luminaires must fulfill various criteria. The energy label for lamps specifies which energy efficiency class the specific lamp has been assigned to, and the energy requirements it has for 1,000 operating hours. The lamp energy label is shown on the lamp packaging. Energy label for luminaires The luminaire information label specifies the lamp energy efficiency class the luminaire is compatible with. With luminaires fitted with other equipment, the energy efficiency class of the light source used is specified. The label also specifies information for an LED luminaire with an integrated LED module that cannot be replaced by the end consumer. The luminaire energy label does not provide any information concerning the energy efficiency of a luminaire. The label must also contain the name or trademark of the supplier, the model ID of the supplier (e. g. EAN code), a specification of the supplied or fitted light source, as well as a scale of energy efficiency classes. This scale must contain the following elements: A light source pictogram specifying the energy efficiency classes of lamps the luminaire is compatible with, which can be replaced by users, in compliance with the requirements for compatibility according to the latest state of technology Example: Luminaire only containing non-replaceable LED modules A cross through the energy efficiency of lamps with which the luminaire is not compatible in compliance with the requirements for compatibility according to the latest state of technology The letters LED located vertically next to the energy efficiency classes A to A++ if the luminaire is fitted with LED modules not intended to be removed by end users. If such luminaires have no sockets for lamps that can be replaced by users, a cross must be applied over classes B to E. 4

7 Luminaire program Energy labeling Example: Luminaire fitted with a replaceable light source The luminaire energy label is not located on the packaging but must be clearly displayed by retailers at the point of sale and in the online offers for the product. The system, which consists of a single or double module, permits customized solutions for stores of almost any size.
