2 0 OREGON TRAFFIC CRASH SUMMARY Oregon Department of Transportation Transportation Development Division Crash Analysis and Reporting Unit th Street NE, Suite Salem, OR 0- Robin Ness Manager September 0 The Crash Analysis and Reporting Unit collects data and publishes statistics for reported motor vehicle traffic crashes per ORS 0.00() and 0.0(). The data supports various local, county, and state traffic safety programs; engineering and planning projects; legislative concepts; and law enforcement services. Legally reportable motor vehicle traffic crashes are those involving death, bodily injury, or damage to personal property in excess of $00 (for crashes that occurred prior to /0/) or $,000 (for crashes that occurred between /0/ and //00). As of January, 00, drivers are required to file an Accident and Insurance Report Form with DMV within hours when: if injury or death resulted from the accident; damage to the driver's vehicle is over $,00; damage to any vehicle is over $,00 and any vehicle is towed from the scene as a result of said damage; or damage to any one person s property, other than a vehicle involved in the accident, is over $,00. For more information on filing requirements, please contact DMV. Disclaimers: The Crash Analysis and Reporting Unit is committed to providing the highest quality crash data to customers. However, because submittal of crash report forms is the responsibility of the individual driver, the Crash Analysis and Reporting Unit cannot guarantee that all qualifying crashes are represented; nor can assurances be made that all details pertaining to a single crash are accurate. Higher numbers of crashes may be reported as of 0, compared to earlier years. This does not necessarily reflect an increase in annual crashes. Higher numbers may result from a change to an internal process that allows the Crash Analysis and Reporting Unit to add previously unavailable, nonfatal crash reports to the annual file. Please be aware of this change when comparing pre-0 crash statistics. Database expansion and refinement implemented in 00 may result in slight differences between data reported in this publication and similar information reported in year prior to 00.
