2 Strategtic Plan Overview Belmont House is proud to celebrate 160 years of serving our community in Belmont House is a place where long term care residents and retirement tenants live with dignity and respect and where staff are supported and valued for their commitment and contributions. Belmont House s Strategic Plan is about working together to achieve excellence in senior s care. As our internal and external environments continue to change and we face increasing financial challenges, our strategic plan establishes Belmont s direction over the next several years to achieve our goal of being The Seniors Home of Choice. The Board of Directors, with input from our stakeholders has revitalized our strategic plan to ensure that we align with the government s health care strategies and priorities. The context of the plan was based on a number of influencing factors including: All non-profit and charitable homes were issued licenses for the long term care beds they operate, effective July 1, Belmont House was issued a 20 year license (longest license possible). Our service agreement for long term care beds was transferred from the MOHLTC to the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN). The new Long Term Care Homes Act came into effect in July 2010 and the new Retirement Homes Act was passed in New regulations and corresponding inspection programs will be aligned with the Acts to ensure that each long term care home and retirement home meet compliance. Health Quality Ontario has introduced an initiative referred to as Resident s First. This initiative is to promote quality improvement by building a knowledge base within the sector. This document outlines the key elements of Belmont House s Strategic Plan: Accountability Framework Mission Vision
3 Accountability Framework The Accountability Framework guides the development of the Strategic Plan in various domains or dimensions called Success Factors and offers a visual model that supports the alignment of the mission, vision, values and strategic direction. 4 Mission, Vision and Core Values Our Mission Our mission defines our reason for being and our core purpose. It tells others what we do and provides a constant influence that guides our decisions. Belmont House is a charitable, not for profit Christian organization dedicated to providing seniors with excellent care within a safe, stimulating community. Belmont House provides support for independence, companionship, choice, dignity and privacy. Our Vision Our Vision defines our goals and what we are striving to achieve. To be an exemplary community for seniors within a caring environment. (The Seniors Home of Choice). Our Core Values Caring: We value an environment of compassion and enthusiasm for each other. Excellence: We value the ability to demonstrate quality of care and service. Innovation: We value the discovery of new ideas, ways to improve and opportunities to explore growth and research. Responsiveness: We value answering questions and enquiries and responding to suggestion that will provide a quality environment for residents and staff. Teamwork: We value our co-workers, our work and our community as we strive to be the best we can be.
5 Strategtic Goals Strategic Goals The development of the Strategic Plan was directed by the Board of Directors. Through collaboration, coordination and support, goals were developed that reflect the input of various stakeholders. Resident Focus We are committed to improving the quality of life for seniors in long term care and housing and we design all aspects of life at Belmont House to not only meet but exceed the expectations of individuals being served by Belmont House. Resident Focus Strategic Goals Provide a safe environment for the Belmont House Community Align opportunities and services to meet the evolving needs of tenants which may require a major capital investment in the future. Align excellence in care and support to meet the ongoing needs of residents today and in the future. Be innovative, responsive and flexible to meet the changing needs of our unique community, in order to remain in the fore-front of their requirements.
6 Strategies to Achieve the Vision Excellent People Belmont House recognizes its employees as its most valuable resource and has developed a comprehensive Human Resources strategy to promote itself as an Employer of Choice. Excellent People Strategic Goals Create a culture of respect. Recruit and retain the best people. Responsible Use of Resources Belmont House is committed to maintaining, upgrading and augmenting its physical assets including our building, grounds, equipment and furniture in order to provide a safe, stimulating, homelike environment. We recognize that we need to manage our resources effectively and that in some cases additional funding may be required to enhance programs and expand our care and services. Responsible Use of Resources Strategic Goals Seek opportunities for revenue generation. Be innovative in our resource utilization. Continue to renew our home. Continuous Learning and Innovation Providing the best possible care to seniors can only happen when employees are given an opportunity to maintain and enhance their skills. As new knowledge emerges and new techniques evolve, Belmont House provides support, mentoring and education in order to foster leadership within a learning environment. Continuous Learning and Innovation Strategic Goals Invest in our people by applying new knowledge. Promote learning and knowledge transfer. Effective Partnerships Belmont House partners with families, the Belmont community, academic centres and organizations including those in the health care sector to continually strengthen and enhance the scope and diversity of the care and services we provide to seniors. 7 Strategies to Achieve the Vision Strategies to Achieve the Vision The Strategic Plan is a high level outline of the goals Belmont House is striving to achieve over the next three years. The new plan developed for will ensure that Belmont is ready to meet the changing needs of our current and future residents and tenants. The senior management team develops a detailed multi-year operating plan that outlines specific timelines, deliverables and assigns responsibility for those deliverables. The senior management team monitors the operating plan quarterly to ensure that specific deliverables are being achieved and to determine if there have been major changes in the health care sector that impacts on our goals and/or our operating plan. The operating plan is shared with staff, residents, tenants, families, volunteers, Board members and others in the Belmont community annually.
