1 Texas Gridiron Youth Football Play Rules

2 TEXAS GRIDIRON FRESHMEN PLAY RULES KICKOFFS WILL ONLY BE DONE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME AND AT THE START OF THE SECOND HALF. IN ALL OTHER SITUATION AFTER A SCORE, THE OPPOSING TEAM WILL TAKE THE BALL ON THE 30YD LINE. NO DEFENSIVE PERSON CAN BE OVER THE CENTER. (5 YRD PENALTY/REPLAY DOWN) NO QUARTERBACK SNEAKS ALLOWED. A QUARTERBACK MUST DROP BACK AT LEAST THREE YARDS BEFORE HE RUNS UP THE MIDDLE OR RUN OUTSIDE THE TACKLE. (5 YRD PENALTY/LOSS OF DOWN) - IF THE QUARTERBACK IS IN SHOTGUN, AND AT LEAST 3YDS BACK, HE CAN TAKE THE DIRECT SNAP AND RUN UP THE MIDDLE. IF A TEAM HAS FOUR DOWN LINEMEN, EACH LINEMAN MUST LINE UP OVER AN OFFENSIVE PERSON EXCEPT THE CENTER. NO DEFENSIVE PLAYER CAN LINE UP IN THE A OR B GAP. (5 YRD PENALTY/REPLAY DOWN) LINEBACKERS MUST BE BEHIND THE DEFENSIVE TACKLES DEEPEST FOOT. (5 YRD PENALTY/REPLAY DOWN) ALL DEFENSIVE LINEMEN MUST BE DOWN IN A 3 POINT STAND. (From tackle to tackle. ) LINEBACKERS MUST WAIT UNTIL THE BALL IS SNAPPED BEFORE THEY BLITZ. THEY CANNOT APPROACH THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE UNTIL THE BALL IS SNAPPED. MAX NUMBER OF PLAYERS ON DEFENSIVE LINE IS 6. ANY PLAYER LINED UP OUTSIDE THE DEFINESIVE END IS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE A LINEMAN AND IS LEAGAL TO BLIZED FROM THAT POSITION. (5 YARD PENALTY/REPLAY OF DOWN) (2) OFFENSIVE COACHES ARE ALLOWED ON THE FIELD WITH THE OFFENSE AND (2) DEFENSIVE COACHES ARE ALLOWED ON THE FIELD WITH THE DEFENSE. AFTER THE QUARTERBACK IS UNDER THE CENTER, THE OFFENSIVE COACHES ARE PROHIBITED FROM REALIGNING HIS PLAYERS AND THE DEFENSIVE COACHES ARE PROHIBITED FROM REALIGNING HIS PLAYERS. - COACHES MUST BE 5 YDS BEHIND THE DEEPEST PLAYER ON BOTH SIDES. (5 YRD PENALTY/REPLAY OF DOWN. OFFENSE HAS OPTION TO DECLINE PENALTY) 2 OFFICIALS WILL BE USED 100 YARD FOOTBALL FIELD THE WEIGHT LIMIT ON THE FRESHMAN LEVEL GO AS FOLLOWS: - IN ORDER TO RUN THE BALL, A KID CANNOT WEIGH MORE THAN 65LBS (65.9LBS IS ACCEPTABLE). - IF A KID IS HEAVIER THAN 90LBS, HE HAS TO PLAY TACKLE TO TACKLE. PUNTING WILL RESULT IN A 30YD WALKOFF. THE WALKOFF CANNOT GO ANY FURTHER THAN THE OTHER TEAMS 20 YD LINE. 2

3 - FUMBLES OR INTERCEPTIONS CANNOT BE ADVANCED BY LINE, BUT IT CAN BY OTHER SKILLED POSITIONS. NEGATIVE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN COACHES IS PROHIBITED. COACHES WHO BECOME INVOLVED WITH ARGUING WITH OPPOSING TEAMS WILL RESULT IN THAT COACH BEING REMOVED FROM THE GAME. PLAY CLOCK IS 40 SECS PER PLAY GAME TIME IS 8 MINUTES PER QUARTER HALF TIME IS 8 MINUTES 3

(5 YRD PENALTY/REKICK) NO RUSHING ON PUNTS. (5 YARD PENALTY/REPLAY OF DOWN) CENTER MUST SNAP THE BALL TO THE PUNTER. THE PUNTER IS ALLOWED TO THROW OR KICK THE BALL REGARDLESS IF IT HITS THE GROUND. - IF THE PUNTER ATTEMPTS TO RUN THE BALL, A FLAG WILL BE THROWN AND THE PLAY WILL BE RULED DEAD AND THERE WILL BE A CHANGE OF POSSESSION AT THE SPOT OF THE FLAG. - NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO MOVE UNTIL THE BALL IS THROWN/KICKED 4

NO REMOVAL OF HELMETS ON THE FIELD FOR ANY REASON (SUBJECTS THE OFFENDING PLAYER(S) TO A 15 YARD PENALTY) USE OF FOUL LANGUAGE AND RUDE, CRUDE OR OFFENSIVE BODY GESTURES BY PLAYERS OR COACHES IS PROHIBITED ( WILL RESULT IN AN UNSPORTSMANLIKE PENALTY OF 15 YARDS) - Repeat Offenders Will Be Ejected ALL KICK-OFFS ARE FROM THE 40-YARD LINE. 100 YARD FIELDS FOR REGULATION PLAY. - MOUTH PIECES ARE TO BE WORN AT ALL LEVELS. (A TIMEOUT WILL BE CHARGED TO VIOLATING TEAMS. IF THERE ARE NO MORE TIMEOUTS LEFT THEN A 15YRD PENALTY WILL BE APPLIED) A TOUCHDOWN BY THE OFFENSE WILL RESULT IN OFFENSE BEING AWARDED SIX (6) POINTS. TEAMS MUST RUN A DEFENSE (30, 40, 50, OR 60) NO MORE THAN 6 ON THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. (VIOLATION WILL RESULT IN 5 YRD PENALTY) DEFENSIVE/OFFENSIVE LINEMEN MUST BE DOWN IN A 3 OR 4 POINT STANCE. (5 YRD PENALTY) ALL LINEBACKERS MUST BE BEHIND THE FOOT OF THE DEEPEST DEFENSIVE TACKLE. IF HE IS CLOSER, HE MUST GET DOWN IN A 3 OR 4 POINT STANCE. (5 YRD PENALTY/REPLAY DOWN) IF A TEAM IS INSIDE THE 10 YD LINE, A TEAM MAY RUN ANY TYPE OF DEFENSE NECESSARY TO STOP THE OFFENSE. ON PUNTS AND FIELD GOALS, THE KICKER HAS TO KICK THE BALL AND ON DEFENSE, ONLY THE OUTSIDE DEFENSIVE PLAYERS CAN RUSH. INTERIOR LINEMEN CAN JUMP UP AND DOWN. DEFENSIVE ENDS AND ANYONE OUTSIDE THE DEFINESIVE END CAN RUSH. ALL FORFEITS WILL RESULT IN A 28-0 SCORE (THE TEAM THAT FORFEIT IS RESPONSIBLE THE REFEREES IN WHICH GAME(S) ARE FORFEITED) BLOCKED FIELD GOAL ATTEMPTS CAN BE ADVANCED. 3 OFFICIALS WILL BE USED FOR VARSITY LEVEL. EXTRA POINTS: 1PT FOR RUN. 2PTS FOR PASS (PASS MUST BE COMPLETED IN THE END ZONE). FIELD GOALS ARE 3PTS. NCAA 4TH DOWN RULE WILL BE IN EFFECT: ONLY THE BALL CARRIER THAT FUMBLE THE BALL CAN ADVANCE THE BALL FORWARD. - IF ADVANCED BY ANY OTHER PLAYER, BALL WILL BE RULED DOWN AT THE SPOT OF THE FUMBLE. GAME TIME: ALL TEAMS MUST BE READY FOR PLAY AT THE TIME THEY ARE SCHEDULED 6

7 - IF THE TEAM IS NOT READY THEY WILL HAVE 15 MINUTES TO START AT WHICH TIME A TIME OUT WILL BE CHARGED TO THE LATE TEAM. - 5 MINUTES AFTER THE FIRST WARNING, THE GAME THEN WILL BE RULED A FORFEIT THE GAME STILL HAS TO BE PLAYED PLAY CLOCK IS 30 SECS PER PLAY GAME TIME IS 10 MINUTES PER QUARTER HALF TIME IS 10 MINUTES 7

10 TEXAS GRIDIRON SPECIAL PLAY RULES ALL GAMES WILL START AT THERE DESIGNATED TIMES, UNLESS OTHER ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE. IN ORDER TO START A GAME, ALL TEAMS MUST HAVE AT LEAST 10 PLAYERS. ALL TEAMS HAVE 10 MINUTES, AFTER THE DESIGNATED GAME TIMES TO START THE GAME. - AFTER 10 MINUTES THE DLAYING TEAM WILL BE FLAG A 15YD PENALTY. - IF A TEAM IS STILL NOT READY TO PLAY, THEY WILL RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL 5MINS. - AFTER THE 5 MINUTES, THE GAME WILL BE RULED A FORFEIT. AND THE GAME STILL MUST BE PLAYED. THERE IS NO MERCY RULE OR MANDATORY RUNNING CLOCK. - IN ORDER FOR THE CLOCK TO START RUNNING, BOTH COACHES MUST AGREE TO RUN THE CLOCK. REFEREES MUST BE PAID AT THE END OF THE FOOTBALL DAY. - IF A TEAM REFUSES TO PAY THE REFEREES, THAT TEAM WILL BE FINED $100 BY THE LEAGUE. ALL PERSONNEL ON THE SIDELINE MUST BE UNIFORMED. - IF NOT, THE REFEREE HAS THE RIGHT TO REMOVE THEM FROM THE SIDELINE. NO ONE IS ALLOWED ON THE FIELD BUT HEAD COACHES AND PRESIDENTS. (NO MATTER WHAT) TALKING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN TEAMS, IN A NEGATIVE MANNER, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. - THE REFEREE WILL GET WITH THE HEAD COACH OR THE TEAM PRESIDENT IF IT BECOMES A PROBLEM. - IF IT CONTINUES, THAT PERSON WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE SIDELINE OR REMOVED FROM THE FACILITY. TEAMS THAT FORFEIT A GAME ARE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR THE REFEREES FOR THAT GAME. TEXAS GRIDIRON OVERTIME RULES 1 ST POSSESSION WILL BE DETERMINED BY A COIN TOSS. EACH TEAM WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY ON THE OFFENSE. THE BALL WILL BE PLACED ON THE 20 YARD LINE. IF THERE IS A TIE AT THE END OF THE 1 ST OVERTIME, THE ABOVE RULE WILL BE REPEATED. IF THERE IS A TIE AT THE END OF THE 2 ND OVERTIME, THE GAME WILL THEN MOVE INTO SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME. SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME WILL BE THE 1 ST TEAM THAT SCORES WIN. A COIN TOSS WILL DETERMINE WHO GETS THE BALL 1 ST. THE BALL WILL BE PLACED THE ON 10 YD LINE AND THE TEAM WILL GET 4 DOWNS TO SCORE A TOUCHDOWN ON THE 1 ST POSSESSION. IF THE INITIAL TEAM SCORES A TOUCHDOWN ON THE 1 ST POSSESSION, THAT TEAM WILL BE DECLARED THE WINNER. 10
