33 Definition of CPD The systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of knowledge and skill and the development of personal qualities necessary for the execution of professional and technical duties throughout the practitioner s working life.

34 Continuing Professional Development The ABE Code of Conduct obliges members to carry out CPD Members should be responsible for the aims and quality of their own CPD Members should carry out not less than 35 hours of CPD per year, which may be spread over a three year period CPD will be taken into account whenever a member applies for upgrading

35 A Personal Development Plan A statement of goals, both long and short term, for your career Without analysis of one s own strengths and weaknesses and a cool look at the opportunities available for self-improvement it is not possible to produce an achievable PDP

36 Training and Development In achieving corporate membership a building engineer will be required to train and develop in the service areas provided and be required to maintain a programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
